My Billionaire Ex Wants Me Back (Katherine) novel Chapter 8

Chapter 8 There’s No Getting Away

Katherine pressed her lips together and took a deep breath. “Mr. Grant, do you know the law? Do you know that breaking into someone’s home is illegal?”

Lucas didn’t seem to care.

He stood up, his tall frame instantly filling the space with pressure.

He stepped closer. Katherine stepped back.

The air around him felt dangerous.

Instinctively, Katherine tried to run, but he grabbed her wrist and yanked her back.

He pinned her hands against the wall, trapping her.

Katherine lifted her head and glared at him, anger flaring in her eyes. “What do you think you’re doing?”

Lucas stared back. Her face had changed over the past five years. Her features were sharper, more striking.

Back then, Katherine rarely wore makeup. Now there was a light touch of it, making her beauty impossible to ignore.

Everything looked the same, except for her eyes. Those eyes that used to hold only him were now empty of him, filled instead with coldness and anger.

That look stabbed straight into Lucas.

He hated that look.

“Why run?” he asked. “You disappeared without a word five years ago. Don’t you owe me an explanation?”

Katherine met his gaze without backing down. You really don’t know why I left? You loved Rachel. I divorced you and stepped aside for the two of you. What, Mr. Grant, was that still not good enough for you?”

Lucas’s brow tightened hard, his eyes darkening

“Katherine, when did you ever hear me say I loved Rachel?”

“You don’t love Rachel?” Katherine shot back. “Then who do you love, me?”

What a joke.

He might not say it out loud, but the whole world knows.

Everyone knows Lucas adores Rachel. He booked entire venues for her, set off fireworks just to celebrate her birthday. I know it better than anyone.

He treats Rachel like a treasure-he does everything for her, keeps her constantly by his side, appearing together day after day.

And aren’t they already married?

Rachel is Mrs. Grant now. He even gave her my family heirloom, just to please her.

And now he’s standing there, telling me he never said he loved Rachel.

Doesn’t he understand that some things never need to be spoken for everyone to see?

Katherine forcefully shook off his hand.

Lucas’s expression stayed sharp and cold. He didn’t answer her question.

“Do you need me to remind you that we’re already divorced?” Katherine said. “Rachel is wife now. You come looking for your ex-wife, grabbing and pulling her around in her ower house. Do you think Rachel wouldn’t make a scene if she knew?”

Every word she spoke was edged with thorns, her gaze sharp, nothing like the gentle woman she used to be.

Lucas found her unfamiliar.

He didn’t deny that he’d treated Rachel well. They’d had a thing once, but they weren’t compatible, and they’d broken up long ago.

After marrying Katherine, no matter how good he was to Rachel, he’d never done anything to betray Katherine.

So he couldn’t understand what Katherine was making such a fuss about.

Over something so small, she aborted the children and vanished for five years.

The thought of the abortion reignited his anger

What right did she have to get rid of their children without a word?

“You keep mentioning the divorce,” Lucas snapped. “Katherine, are you done making a scene? Back then, when you aborted the babies, who gave you that right?*

Making a scene?

So in his eyes, everything I’ve done is just me throwing a tantrum?

She didn’t have the energy for that.

She was truly disappointed in him and in their marriage.

She was done with him.

Katherine yanked the door open. “Get out.”

“Answer my question.”

“I wanted a divorce. I wanted to abort your children. So what?” she said, her voice shaking. “There was never any love between us, was there You didn’t care about the babies or me. Why should I have kept it? To stay by your side and be despised by you?”
