Chapter 236
My Cheating Mate
Connor pov
We were halfway through breakfast-Grace laughing at something Nate said about vampires needing
cereal too-when the alarm sounded.
Not the pack house fire alarm. Not a drill.
The perimeter breach alarm. The one that meant hostile forces had crossed onto Trent territory.
Every adult in the room moved simultaneously.
Alpha Jeremy was on his feet, phone already out, barking orders. “Marcus, report. Where? How many?”
Luna Emma grabbed Nate, pulling him close. “Basement. Now.”
Lord Castellan’s eyes went completely black. “They’re early. The Preservation Front is attacking three days early.”
Grace froze beside me. “They’re here. Connor, they’re actually here-”
“Grace, basement.” Alpha Jeremy’s voice was pure Alpha command. “Connor, with her. Victoria’s guards, full protection detail. Move NOW.”
I grabbed Grace’s hand, pulling her toward the basement stairs. She was moving but her eyes were wide, panicked. This was real. Actually happening. Not in three days like we’d thought. Right now.
The vampire guards formed around us immediately-Victoria and three others, moving with supernatural speed to create a protective barrier between Grace and whatever was coming.
“How many?” I asked Victoria as we descended into the basement.
“Initial reports say fifteen wolves at the eastern perimeter. Armed with silver weapons.” Her voice was grim. “Connor, this is a coordinated assault. Professional. The Preservation Front sent their best.”
The basement was reinforced-Alpha Jeremy had mentioned it briefly during the protection briefing we hadn’t gotten to yet. Steel-reinforced walls, emergency exit tunnel, enough supplies for a siege if
necessary.
Luna Emma was already there with Nate, setting up in the secure room. “Grace, Connor, in here. Now.”
Grace was shaking. “Mama, Daddy’s up there-Uncle Cas is up there-”
“And they’re handling it.” Luna Emma pulled Grace into the secure room. “Sweetheart, your father has been preparing for this. Lord Castellan has been planning for this. They’ve got enforcers, vampire guards, allied pack members on standby. This is-this is what they do.”
“But fifteen wolves with silver weapons-”

“Will face forty wolves and twenty vampires who’ve been training for exactly this scenario.” Luna Emma’s voice was firm. “Grace, you need to trust them. Trust that they can protect us while we protect you.”
The secure room was small but well-equipped. Monitors showing various angles of the pack territory. Communication equipment. Medical supplies. Everything needed to wait out an assault.
I pulled Grace against me, feeling her heart racing, her wolf pacing frantically beneath her skin.
“They came for me,” she whispered. “Connor, they came early because they knew we were getting ready. Knew we were planning defenses. They came for me.”
“And they’re not getting you.” I held her tighter. “Grace, we’re in a steel-reinforced room with vampire guards and your mother who’s scarier than she looks. You’re safe.”
On the monitors, I could see the eastern perimeter. Wolves-the attacking Preservation Front forces- engaging with Trent pack defenders. Silver flashed. Blood sprayed. It was brutal and fast and absolutely
real.
“There.” Victoria pointed at one of the monitors. “That’s their leader. Thomas Vex.”
My blood ran cold. “Courtney’s father is leading the assault?”
“Apparently he’s more committed to extremism than we realized.” Victoria was watching the screen with predatory focus. “Thomas Vex is not just a Council sympathizer. He’s high-level Preservation Front. Possibly their actual leader.”
On screen, Thomas was directing the assault with military precision. Sending wolves in coordinated waves. Using silver weapons with disturbing efficiency.
And his target was clear. His forces were pushing toward the main house. Toward where Grace would normally be.
“They don’t know she’s in the basement,” Luna Emma said. “They’re expecting her in her room. Connor, that buys us time.”
Another monitor showed Lord Castellan engaging three Preservation Front wolves simultaneously. He was-devastating. Moving too fast to track, disarming wolves with casual efficiency, his vampire strength overwhelming even coordinated silver-weapon attacks.
“Uncle Cas is okay,” Grace said, relief clear in her voice. “He’s-he’s actually winning-”
Then Thomas Vex shifted his attention. Saw Lord Castellan. And signaled something to his forces.
Ten wolves converged on Castellan. All with silver weapons. All attacking simultaneously.
