My Cheating Mate (Emma and Jeremy) novel Chapter 268

Chapter 268

“Our son is going to be that baby.”

“Yes. And maybe-maybe by the time he’s old enough to understand politics, Elena’s followers will have realized their ide failed. Maybe the next generation of wolves will look at our family and think ‘that’s just how things are’ instead of ‘that’s controversial.”” She paused. “Or maybe there will still be opposition. Still be extremists. But our son will grow up strong en to face it. The way I did.”

She was right. Grace had grown up with constant threats-Thomas Vex’s ideology, Courtney’s attack, the Preservation Fro assault. And she’d become-incredible. Strong and compassionate and brave despite everything.

Our son would too. If we gave him the foundation Grace had gotten. Love and protection and absolute certainty that his fam

was worth any fight.

“Uncle Cas is going to spoil him,” I said, trying to lighten the mood.

“Uncle Cas is already planning to spoil him. He asked me last week about age-appropriate art supplies for infants.” Grace smiled. “Apparently there are special non-toxic paints for babies. He’s researched extensively.”

“Of course he has.” I felt some tension release. “Grace, our son is going to have the most overprotective great-uncle in

existence.”

“And the most loving. Don’t forget that part.” She shifted position, wincing slightly. “Our son is going to grow up knowing h loved. By both sets of grandparents. By Uncle Nate who’s already planning dinosaur lessons. By Uncle Cas who’ll teach him about vampire history. By parents who chose to bring him into this world despite knowing it wasn’t guaranteed to be safe.”

“Do you ever regret it?” I asked. “The pregnancy. Bringing a baby into this when Elena’s followers are still out there?”

“Never.” The answer was immediate. Absolute. “Connor, this babyour son-he’s proof that love won. That integration wor That extremists failed. I can’t regret that.”

My phone buzzed. Text from Lord Castellan: *Connor, perimeter check complete. No suspicious activity. All clear for tonight. Tell Grace to rest. The baby needs her to rest.*

I showed Grace the text. She rolled her eyes. “Uncle Cas runs perimeter checks twice a day now. It’s excessive.”

“It’s protective. There’s a difference.” I texted back: *Will do. Thanks for the check.*

*How is she? Any discomfort? Contractions? The baby’s position has shifted since last week-is she feeling increased pressure

Grace read over my shoulder. “Tell him I’m fine and he needs to stop being the world’s most overprotective great-uncle.

*She says she’s fine and you’re being overprotective.*

*Tell her that’s my job. Also, the prenatal vitainins-is she taking them consistently? Dr. Reeves mentioned she’s been forgetful.*

“He’s asking about vitamins now?”

“Uncle Cas takes his great-uncle responsibilities very seriously.” I texted: “She takes then. We have systems is place

“Good. Connor, I’ll be by tomorrow morning to check on her. ‘Tell Grace I’m bringing those reference hocks about early childhood art development we discussed. *

After the text conversation ended, Grace was shaking her head “He’s bringing reference books. For a baby weba won the for two more months.”

“He wants to be prepared ”

“He wants to ensure our son grows up with proper artistic education from birth.” But she was smiling. “Connor, Uncle Ca going to be an amazing great-uncle. Overprotective and intense and absolutely devoted.”

“Just like he’s been an amazing uncle to you.”

“Exactly.” She yawned-the bone-deep exhaustion of third trimester pregnancy. “Come on. Help me to bed. Your son is my bladder as a trampoline and I need to sleep while he’s actually still.”

I helped her up, supporting her weight as we made our way to our bedroom. We’d moved into the pack house full-time an ago-closer to family, better security, more support for when the baby arrived.

Our room was ready. Nursery next door fully prepared with Luna Emma’s help. Vampire guards rotating shifts outside. Pad security at maximum. Everything in place for our son’s arrival.

But still the fear remained. The knowledge that Elena’s followers existed somewhere in the shadows. That ideology didn with its leaders. That our son would be born into a world where some supernatural creatures still believed his family was w
