“How are you, Margot? How are things?” I ask her as we work to create the schedule while the warriors continue to check in.

“They’re good. Ezra is…”

“Not Joshua?” I ask.

She huffs out a laugh. “He’s nothing like Joshua. And he doesn’t put pressure on me to accept him, but the pack does. They really want a Luna. My mother is great, and they’ve responded to her incredibly well, but they want their Alpha’s mate as their Luna.”

“I get that. His pack especially already had a Luna, so it’s got to be hard for them. As good as our Alphas are, they’re missing the piece that we give them.”

“And what’s that?” she asks me.

“We’re the heart of the pack. Without us, they’re just going through the motions. The pack knows it just as much as Ezra knows it. They want life, passion, love…all the things that we as their Lunas give them that their Alphas don’t.”

She tilts her head at me. “How does that work now that we’re setting it up for women to become Alphas?”

“We do what we’ve always done. We become everything to everyone.”

“That sounds exhausting,” she says.

“Tell me your didn’t do that when and where you could in Joshua’s pack,” I say.

“I did. It was exhausting.”

“That’s why you need two people, working together. That’s the only way the pack runs smoothly.”

We’re quiet a moment. “How are things with Aiden’s pack and that guy, your brother’s former Beta?” she asks.

“Camden? We haven’t heard from him or seen him, but…there’s

something up with the pack. Robin and I can’t figure out what it is, but Robin has extra patrols running most of the time. Since we share a border with them on one side, it puts our pack in a very tenuous position.”

“I’m sure Kayce would answer a call for help,” she says.

“He would. He absolutely would, so would Hunter, so would Dutton, so would Amelia,” I say.

“So would Ezra,” Margot says seriously.

“Yes, but he’s far away. Robin’s biggest concern, and mine as well is, what happens when he finds out I’m carrying Robin’s heir? I know Camden. I know he still wants me. He’s always been obsessed with me. When he realizes that I’m pregnant…” I can’t go on, covering my stomach with my hands.

“What’s going on?” he asks, nuzzling my neck.

I shake my head, but he looks up at Margot.

“We were talking about Camden and Aiden’s pack.”

“Is there a problem?” I hear Ezra ask.

“It’s nothing like what Hunter is dealing with,” Robin says.

“What is Hunter dealing with?” I ask, turning in his arms.

“He’s pretty sure that Zahn’s pack is going to attack while he’s here.”

“What? I thought that piece of shit was trying to work things out with Jocelyn? So, it really was all a lie?” I ask.

“Yes,” Sophie says, coming up. “Are you okay, Nikki?”

“Yeah. It’s…yeah, I’m fine.”

“Let’s talk soon, Robin. Zahn isn’t the only Alpha we need to be worrying about,” Ezra says.

“Yeah, let’s get through this Alpha challenge and see what happens with Zahn and then we can talk about Aiden.”

I hear the call for the first round of competitors.

“You need to go baby,” I tell him.
