Linda turned and hurried out.

Later that afternoon, Hester told Yvaine they had scheduled a dinner with the Lowells that evening.

Yvaine initially considered bringing Silas along.

But after thinking it through, she decided against telling him.

She was terrified that if Silas and Zachary ended up in the same room again, it would end in bloodshed.

So far, they had only crossed paths twice.

The first time, when she and Silas visited Zachary in the hospital, Zachary had hurled an apple at Silas's head. Although it missed, it was obvious that if he hadn't been hooked up to an IV, he would have thrown a punch instead.

The second time was yesterday. And that encounter immediately escalated into a fistfight.

First time: throwing fruit.

Second time: throwing punches.

She was genuinely worried that if there was a third time, someone was going to pull a knife.

She didn't know Silas well enough to predict his limits yet.

But she knew for a fact Zachary was crazy enough to escalate things.

Right before clocking out, Yvaine sent a quick text.

Yvaine: *I have a business dinner tonight. I'll be home late.*

She waited a few minutes. No response.

Yvaine sighed.
