Yvaine looked dead at Zachary and said coldly, "He is not a prop."
He is my husband.
"Hah..." Zachary scoffed, entirely unconvinced. He didn't argue further, simply pulling out a chair and sitting down.
In his mind, it was an undeniable fact: Silas was nothing but a tool.
A convenient prop Yvaine was using to make him jealous.
Women... they always fell back on the same predictable little mind games.
Marcus and Albina watched the icy exchange between Yvaine and their son. The tension in the room was suffocating.
But they didn't read too deeply into it. They simply assumed Zachary had taken his reckless behavior too far this time, and Yvaine was genuinely furious.
The food was served, and the dinner officially began.
Lucius looked across the table at Marcus and brought up the corporate elephant in the room.
He asked if Lowell Group was dissatisfied with the current terms of their joint ventures, offering to adjust the proposals if anything was lacking on Sterling Group's end.
Marcus looked completely lost.
"Not at all."
Their families had done business together for years, and the partnerships had always been highly lucrative and smooth.
Lucius shot a pointed glance at Zachary, then asked why so many of their recent project proposals had been summarily rejected and sent back.
Instantly, the puzzle pieces snapped together. Zachary was deliberately sabotaging the deals.
Zachary looked at the Sterlings, unbothered. He had intentionally kept his parents in the dark.
His logic was simple: make things a little difficult for Yvaine and her family's company, force her to swallow her pride, apologize, and coax him. Once she gave in, he would greenlight everything again.
It was supposed to stay between them.
He never expected Yvaine to be this stubborn. She utterly refused to humor him.
And now, her parents had escalated the issue straight to his parents.
"I did it," Zachary admitted effortlessly. "I reviewed the proposals and found structural flaws in a lot of them, so I sent them back for revisions."
Marcus and Albina glared at him.
Did he honestly think they didn't know their own son?
