My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 1227

Andrew slid a folder across the table. “Here, read this.”

Amelia took it, flipping through the first few pages. Her eyebrows arched. “Isn’t this just the company’s sponsorship list? Did something happen?”

The Lane Group had been running several charity programs since the very beginning, but their scholarship fund for underprivileged students was the one everyone took most seriously. Every year, they poured a ton of money into finding students across the country who needed help with tuition or living expenses.

By now, they’d sponsored over five thousand students. A few of them had even joined The Lane Group after graduation. Andrew’s own assistant was one of them, a top grad from one of the best universities around.

Amelia had never worked at the company, so she only knew a little about all this.

She skimmed a few more pages, still not seeing anything unusual.

Andrew said, “Check the date.”

She looked up at the top of the page. Her eyes widened. “Wait, this is from five years ago?”

Andrew nodded.

Amelia frowned, scanning the names more carefully. “What’s up with this list?” She looked it over again, but nothing stood out. None of the names felt familiar.

“There’s a girl on here,” Andrew said. “Beatty.”

“Beatty?” Amelia repeated the name quietly, trying to see if it brought anything to mind. It didn’t. “Who is she?”

She took a wild guess. “Did she fake her background or something? Was she not really in need?”
