My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 926

Elizabeth flopped onto the couch with a dramatic sigh. “Come on, don’t go easy on me just because I’m a delicate little flower.”

Emily grabbed a throw pillow and lobbed it at her. “What’s gotten into you?”

Clutching the pillow to her chest, Elizabeth sat up with a mischievous grin. “Be honest—Tristan confessed to you, didn’t he?”

Emily poured herself a glass of water, keeping her tone cool. “Why do you care so much?”

Elizabeth scooted closer, eyes gleaming with curiosity. “Oh, come on, just satisfy my curiosity, will you? After all, I’m basically the mastermind behind you two getting together. If I hadn’t sent Tristan that video of Albert sending you flowers, would Tristan have gotten jealous enough to go after you?”

The memory of Tristan pinning her against the car and kissing her flashed through Emily’s mind, making her cheeks burn with a mix of embarrassment and annoyance.

“You’re lucky I haven’t held you accountable for that stunt.”

Suddenly, Elizabeth jabbed a finger at Emily’s ear and crowed, “You’re blushing! I knew it—Tristan really did confess, didn’t he? You’re so clueless, there’s no way you made the first move.”

Emily batted her hand away. “So what if he did? So what if he didn’t?”

She settled on the couch, water glass in hand, and turned her attention to the TV.

Elizabeth pressed on. “You don’t have to say it—I already know. With how oblivious you are, if Tristan hadn’t forced your hand, you’d never end up together.”

Emily shot her a look. “Oblivious? Are you underestimating me?”

For all her past and present lives, this was really her first proper relationship. She still felt out of her depth, and the thought that Tristan was now officially her boyfriend made her chest feel oddly warm—and more than a little weird.

Watching Emily’s expression, Elizabeth nudged her playfully. “Hey, I never asked—what made you say yes to Tristan? I figured he’d have to chase you for ages before you’d give in, but you actually agreed today?”

Emily shrugged. “He confessed, I said yes. Isn’t that normal?”

Elizabeth shook her head. “Not normal at all. Either you had a sudden epiphany, or Tristan blackmailed you into it.”

The truth was, Emily felt just as confused. Sure, she’d noticed her feelings for Tristan changing, but she’d never really considered being with him, never thought about taking that step.

When he kissed her, her first instinct had been to run—or at least, to somehow smooth over the awkwardness between them.
