My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 942

Emily Blair nodded earnestly. “I understand. Thank you, Ms. Reid.”

Before she left, she set down the fruit basket, deciding to leave it behind.

With the information gathered—including details on three children caught in the surveillance—Emily instructed her assistant to track down their current whereabouts.

Armed with these clues, it didn’t take long before they made progress.

A week passed before the three children were finally located.

Over the past twenty-five years, these three—now women the same age as Emily—had ended up scattered across the country. Two were already working, while one was pursuing a master’s degree.

When Emily reached out, all three agreed to come to the capital for DNA testing. Emily covered all their travel expenses.

She chose not to tell Tate Vargas about this development; there was no certainty yet, and giving someone hope only to snatch it away could be devastating.

Instead, she simply contacted Melisa Vargas and requested a blood sample from Tate for the test.

But, disappointingly, none of the three women turned out to be Tate Vargas’s biological daughter.

With feelings of regret, the three women could only return home.

Emily stared at the trio of paternity test reports, completely at a loss.

Ms. Morris had provided a comprehensive list of every baby girl taken in at the Sunshine House orphanage after July 1999—nothing should have been missed.

So how could it be that none of them matched?

After several days of waiting, the maternity hospital suddenly called.

They reported that Adelaide George’s body had been brought in after a fatal car accident in January 2001.

One of the nurses remembered it vividly—the crash had been horrific. What stuck out most was that only someone named Cynthia came to claim Adelaide’s body.

The hospital had no further information on Cynthia. All Emily could find was that Adelaide once had a daughter named Cynthia, who’d been sent away as a small child. There were no available records of Cynthia’s whereabouts or identity.

Emily left the hospital and returned home, her mind tangled with confusion.

The orphanage trail had gone cold. The hospital trail had too. There was nowhere left to turn.
