My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 160

Within minutes, though it felt like hours, she heard distant sirens. Noah climbed out of the car, her knees weak, and waved her arms desperately.

“Here! Over here!” she shouted, her voice breaking in panic.

The flashing red and blue lights grew closer until the ambulance pulled up beside the damaged car. Two paramedics rushed toward her.

“She hit her head,” Noah said breathlessly, stepping aside so they could reach Lily. “She was unconscious when I checked. She’s still breathing but weak.”

“It’s okay, miss, we’ll take care of her,” one of the medics assured her. They gently opened Lily’s door, unbuckled the seatbelt, and began checking her vitals.

As they worked, a police car pulled up too. The officers stepped out quickly, taking in the sight of the crashed vehicle. One of them approached Noah.

“Are you okay, miss?” he asked.

“I’m fine,” she said in a shaky voice. “But my friend… she’s not waking up. Those cars were following us since morning and then...” her voice broke, tears filling her eyes again.

“Cars following you?” the officer repeated, frowning. “Can you describe them?”

Noah tried to remember. “Black SUV, maybe two of them. I saw them near Lily’s office earlier. Then again on the highway. I thought maybe it was a coincidence, but then they kept behind us the whole time.”

The officer nodded, taking notes. “We’ll look into it. Right now, you should let the paramedics check you too.”

“I’m fine,” she insisted, though her body was trembling all over. She could feel a bruise forming on her shoulder from the seatbelt and blood on her face. “Just please take her to the hospital fast.”

The paramedics had already lifted Lily onto a stretcher. Her face was pale, her hair sticking to her forehead, and Noah’s heart ached seeing her like that.

They loaded her into the ambulance, and one of the medics asked Noah to come along. She climbed in, sitting near Lily’s head, holding her cold hand tightly as the vehicle started moving.

Lily didn’t stir. Her breathing was shallow, and a bandage now covered the wound on her temple.

“Please be okay,” Noah whispered, her tears falling freely now. “You can’t just leave me like this, Lily. You’ve already been through so much. You were finally trying to be free.”

Her voice cracked as she remembered Lily’s words from earlier, about David being gone, about the divorce papers. She had sounded so tired, so desperate for peace.

The ambulance’s siren wailed through the night as they rushed toward the hospital.

Noah’s hands stayed wrapped around Lily’s, her thumb brushing against her cold fingers. Every second felt like an eternity.

When they finally reached the hospital, the emergency team rushed Lily inside. A nurse stopped Noah at the entrance of the emergency room.

“You can’t come in right now. Please wait outside,” the nurse said gently.

“But...”

“You also need treatment,” the nurse said.

The inspector nodded toward the chair. “Please, sit. You’ve been through a shock.”

“I’m fine,” she said, though her voice was barely above a whisper. She wasn’t fine, but she didn’t want to admit it.

The officer opened a small notepad. “You mentioned earlier that two cars were following you. Can you describe them in more detail?”

Noah tried to recall the scene, forcing her mind to replay everything that had happened. “They were both black SUVs,” she said slowly. “Tinted windows. One of them had a small dent on the back door, I think. I noticed it this morning near Lily’s office, and again later when we were heading out for dinner.”

The inspector nodded, taking notes. “And you’re sure they were the same cars?”

“Yes,” Noah said firmly. “We thought it might be a coincidence, but they followed us the whole way. Even when I changed lanes or slowed down, they stayed right behind us.”

“Did you manage to get a license plate number?”

Noah shook her head regretfully. “No. It was getting dark, and they kept a little distance. I didn’t think of taking a photo, I just wanted to get away.”

“I understand,” the officer said gently. “From what we saw at the site, it looks like someone forced your car toward the side of the road. But we’ll confirm once we review all nearby CCTV footage.”

Noah’s stomach tightened. “So it wasn’t an accident?”

The inspector hesitated. “We can’t say for sure yet. But it looks… unusual. Especially since those vehicles didn’t stop to help or report the crash.”
