My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 193

Lily sat down on the chair and began sketching the design she would present tomorrow.

Her focus was unshakable; the world around her faded into silence. She didn’t even notice when David, sitting on the sofa nearby, drifted off to sleep.

When she finally looked up from her work, her pencil paused midair. Her eyes widened slightly, David was asleep, his head resting on the arm of the sofa. For a brief moment, confusion crossed her face. What is he doing? she thought. But she quickly shook her head and forced herself to ignore him, returning to her design.

The room was quiet except for the soft scratch of her pencil and the faint hum of the air conditioner. Hours passed. The exhaustion she’d been holding off for days began to creep in. Her eyelids grew heavier with every passing minute. She hadn’t slept properly in a week, and now her body was giving up on her.

She leaned her head against the table for a brief rest just a few minutes, she told herself but before she realized it, sleep pulled her in completely.

In her dreams, she felt something warm wrap around her. The warmth was comforting, safe… familiar. A faint voice reached her ears, gentle and low.

“Sleep.”

The word echoed softly in her mind. She burrowed deeper into the warmth and sank into deep, peaceful sleep.

When Lily woke again, sunlight streamed faintly through the curtains. She blinked several times, disoriented. Her heart skipped a beat when she realized, she wasn’t at the table anymore. She was in bed.

She shot up immediately, glancing at the clock. “Ten?!” she gasped. “Damn, how can I sleep so long?”

Panic rushed through her as she jumped out of bed. Wait... I was working at the table… how did I end up here? Her gaze darted around the room. David wasn’t there. A realization slowly dawned on her, he must have carried her to bed again.

Her eyes then caught on a set of neatly folded clothes on the table. She approached and picked them up. The size was perfect, her size. Did he… buy this for me? she wondered, staring down at the dress in her hands.

Before she could think further, her phone rang sharply, startling her. She quickly snatched it from the bedside table. “Linda,” she answered, trying to steady her voice.

“Where are you? I’ve been trying to reach you for an hour!” Linda’s panicked voice crackled through the line.

“Oh, I’m sorry, I....” Lily started to explain, but then she heard footsteps. She turned, her words dying in her throat.

David stood in the doorway, his eyes fixed on her, his expression unreadable, like he had caught her doing something she shouldn’t.

Lily looked away, refusing to acknowledge him. “I’ll send you the location. Come here,” she said quickly before hanging up. Since all her things were here anyway, going back to the studio made no sense.

“Who was that?” David asked quietly.

“That’s none of your business,” Lily replied coldly, grabbing the dress.

“Lily...”

Before he could finish, she turned sharply, her patience snapping. “What is it now? I’m doing everything just as you said, so what more do you want?” Her voice rose with frustration as she yanked her elbow free from his grip.

David froze, caught off guard by her sudden outburst. He looked at her silently for a moment before saying softly, “Nothing. Go take a shower.”
