My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 204

After some time, she stopped in front of a quiet bar on the edge of the city. The neon sign flickered weakly, and faint music floated out from inside. She turned off the engine, sat there for a moment, then grabbed her bag and stepped out.

The night breeze brushed against her face as she walked in. All she wanted was a drink something to quiet her thoughts, even for a little while.

Lily opened the door to the bar, and the soft bell above it rang out. The atmosphere inside was heavy with the scent of alcohol and smoke, with traces of perfume and laughter. It was not full just a handful of patrons, sitting by themselves at the bar and in small groups at the tables.

She entered slowly, clicking her heels on the wooden floor. The light was low, golden, almost soothing after the day. She went directly to the counter and sat in the corner, far from the others.

“What would you like, miss?” the bartender inquired with a polite smile.

“Something strong,” said Lily gently.

The man nodded and poured her a glass of whiskey. She took it, feeling the cold glass in her hand, and looked at the liquid in it for what seemed to be ages before drinking it. The sensation of it burning in her throat was immediate, but she didn't flinch. It was almost comforting to feel it. She doesn't drink alcohol, but today she needs it. She continued drinking in silence, glass after glass. It became colder outside, while inside, the glass was empty once more.

After a few more glasses, the world around her started to blur. The music faded into a low hum, and the lights above her seemed to spin slowly, like the room was swaying. She leaned her head on her palm, trying to steady herself, but her body felt heavy.

Just then, her phone began to vibrate inside her bag. It buzzed again and again, but she could hardly focus. With fumbling hands, she reached into her bag, trying to grab it. Her fingers brushed the edge of the phone, but it slipped from her grasp and fell to the floor with a dull sound.

“Ah… not again,” she mumbled weakly, trying to reach for it, but her vision was spinning too much.

Her eyes grew heavier with each passing second. She leaned back against the chair, her head tilting to the side. The warmth of the whiskey and exhaustion from the long day wrapped around her like a blanket.

Within moments, she was fast asleep right there, her phone still vibrating quietly on the floor beside her foot.

The bartender noticed that Lily was asleep on the counter with her head on her arms, which were folded underneath it, with deep, labored breaths. Her phone was vibrating on the floor near her feet. The bartender rushed from behind the counter to retrieve it and saw who was on the other side of the call: it was David.

He hesitated for a moment before responding, “Hello?”

The deep voice on the other side was tense and sharp. “Who are you? What are you doing answering my wife’s phone? Where is she?"

The bartender was caught off guard by the angry tone on the phone. “Well, sir, she is in the bar right now,” he stammered, throwing a glance at Lily, who was peacefully sleeping on the bar counter. “She. well. she appears to be intoxicated.”

On the other side of the phone call, there was a deep silence, but the bartender in the bar sensed the impending storm.

“Where. Is. She.” David’s tone was low and deep, laced with barely controlled anger.

His heart was pounding heavily in his chest. She went drinking? Alone?
