My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 209

“I...” She froze, her fingers clutching the bedsheet. “I was bleeding… what happened to me?” she whispered, looking at David with fear in her eyes.

David’s throat tightened. He took a deep breath, trying to stay calm for her sake, even though the memory of last night still haunted him. He reached out and gently took her hand.

“Lily…” David’s voice came out low. “You were bleeding because....”

Before he could finish, the door suddenly opened. The doctor walked in with a nurse behind him.

“Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Hardison,” The doctor greeted politely.

Lily blinked, her brows knitting together. Mrs. Hardison? The words felt strange in her ears. No one had ever called her that before. Her eyes instantly shot toward David, narrowing suspiciously. What did he say this time?

David, pretending not to notice her glare, simply gave a faint smile, the kind that made her even more annoyed.

The doctor moved closer, checking her file. “Mrs. Hardison, how are you feeling now?”

“I’m… feeling better,” Lily replied softly, her voice still weak but clear.

“That’s good to hear,” the doctor said, nodding. “But from now on, you have to take better care of yourself. You can’t be careless like yesterday. No Drink, rest more, and avoid stress. Your situation is a little more complicated than most women, so you must be extra careful. I’ve already explained everything to Mr. Hardison. If things go smoothly, you can go home tomorrow.”

Lily frowned, her confusion deepening. Complicated? More careful? What’s going on?

She glanced at David, who stood silently beside her bed, his face unreadable. The words “I’ve already explained everything to Mr. Hardison” bothered her. She hadn’t given him any right to speak for her.

“Doctor,” she said, looking back at him, “can you please tell me what’s wrong with me? I… I remember bleeding last night.”

The doctor hesitated for a second, surprised. “Mr. Hardison didn’t tell you?”

Lily shook her head. “No.”

The doctor gave a quick look toward David before answering. “You’re pregnant, Mrs. Hardison.”

Lily’s eyes widened. For a second, she thought she’d heard him wrong.

“What?” she breathed out, almost whispering. Her gaze shifted slowly to David, searching his face for some kind of denial anything that said the doctor was joking.

But David didn’t say a word. His heart pounded so loud he could barely hear himself think. He could see the disbelief and anger flickering in her eyes, and it twisted something deep inside him.

“Lily…” he said softly, leaning closer to her. He reached out and took her cold hand in his.

“You know what?” Lily cut him off sharply, her voice trembling with anger. “Don’t joke with me, David. Don’t even think that just because I’m pregnant, you can use me again!”

Her voice rose higher with each word. “All this. everything is because of you! Do you even have a conscience?”

Her chest heaved as she shouted. The anger, the pain, the disbelief, everything she had been holding inside came bursting out all at once. But the effort drained her. Her vision blurred, and suddenly her head began spinning. A sharp pain shot through her abdomen, and she clutched her stomach, her breath hitching.

“Lily, calm down,” David said quickly, panic flashing across his face. He stepped forward to steady her, but she jerked away from his hand.

“Don’t come near me!” she hissed, glaring at him with burning eyes. “Don’t you dare touch me.”

Her voice was cold, but it trembled at the edges. She hated him, hated everything about him in that moment. She had hated him before, but now the word pregnant made that hatred twist even deeper. She didn’t know what to do with the anger or the fear swirling inside her.

David hesitated, torn between wanting to hold her and knowing she didn’t want him anywhere near her. He slowly reached for the pillow, carefully helping her lie down despite her resistance.

“Just rest,” he whispered quietly, though his voice cracked slightly.

Lily turned her face away from him, staring at the wall. Her eyes blurred again, and tears silently rolled down her cheeks. She bit her lip hard, trying not to make a sound.

David stood beside the bed, watching her. Each tear that slipped down her face made his chest ache painfully, but he didn’t dare to say a word. He didn’t want to make things worse, not when she was already hurting this much.
