My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 212

“She… she lost it?” he whispered, his voice breaking. “No…”

Roy placed a hand on his shoulder, but David couldn’t feel anything. His world had gone blank. The thought that their child was gone, the child he hadn’t even had the chance to protect, tore him apart from the inside.

“I killed them,” he whispered hoarsely, tears falling freely now. “It’s my fault… I killed them…”

Roy tried to steady him, “Boss, calm down. It wasn’t your fault, please...”

David shook his head violently. “No, Roy. If I hadn’t left her alone… if I had just stayed with her… she wouldn’t have been hurt. She wouldn’t have lost…” his words faded, replaced by a broken sob.

He leaned against the wall, covering his face with both hands, his shoulders shaking. “She’s never going to forgive me for this,” he murmured. “Never…”

Roy sighed heavily, not knowing what to say. He could only watch as his boss the man who was always calm, powerful, and in control broke down completely outside the operation room, mourning the life that was lost before it even began.

The doctor sighed softly, giving him a sympathetic look. “Mr. Hardison, I understand this is difficult, but Mrs. Hardison is still weak. She needs rest and peace right now. Please, don’t say anything that will stress her further.”

David’s breath came heavy, his eyes red and distant. “Can I see her?” he finally asked, his voice almost gone.

The doctor hesitated for a moment before nodding. “She’s still unconscious. You can see her, but please don’t disturb her.”

When the doctor walked away, David just stood there for a long second, staring at the closed door. His hand trembled as he reached for the handle. Roy stayed beside him, watching him with quiet pity.

He opened the door and stepped inside.

The room was quiet, the only sound was the faint beeping of the monitor beside Lily’s bed. She lay still, pale as snow, her lashes resting against her cheeks, dried tears marking her face.

David walked slowly to her side and sat down. He reached out, hesitated for a long moment, then gently took her hand. It was cold. His eyes filled again as he whispered, “I’m sorry, Lily… I’m so sorry…”

He brushed a loose strand of hair from her forehead, his thumb trembling as it grazed her skin. “If I could take your pain away, I would. If I could bring back our child… I would give everything.”

His voice broke completely, and he bent his head, pressing his forehead against her hand. "I'm sorry"

He had thought… maybe this time things between them would finally get better. Maybe the child, though unexpected, could become a reason to fix what was broken between them. It wasn’t something he planned, but when he heard Lily was pregnant, for the first time in a long time, he had felt a tiny spark of hope.
