My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 211

Marina and Lina both stammered. Marina tried to speak, but her voice came out small. “David, I didn’t do anything. I just....I came because I heard she was hospitalized.”

David’s face was hard now. He didn’t believe her for a second. He scooped Lily up in his arms as gently as he could and laid her on the bed. The room felt suddenly too small; it spun around him.

He slammed the emergency button on the bedside panel.

“Help!” he called out, voice tight. He cradled her face with shaking hands and leaned close. “Lily, can you hear me?”

Lily’s eyes were crowded with tears. She grabbed at her stomach and cried out again. “If anything happens to my child.... I’ll destroy you, David,” she said through clenched teeth, her voice raw and furious though it trembled.

Those words cut him to the bone. He felt the heat of shame and fear all at once. He didn’t answer with anger. Instead his voice came out small and broken. “I’m sorry,” he said. “I’m so sorry.”

“she is… pregnant?” Marina’s voice sliced through, part disbelief, part triumph lost in panic. She stepped forward, reaching like she wanted to touch him, but he shoved her hand away hard.

David’s face changed then. All his control snapped. He hit Marina across the face with a slap that echoed. For a second Marina staggered backwards, hand flying to her cheek. Tears sprang in her eyes. Her anger dissolved into shock and pain.

“You have no right to be here,” David said quietly, voice cold. “Get out.”

At that moment the door flew open and two nurses and a doctor burst in, faces pale and fast.

The room filled with urgency. “What happened?” the doctor demanded, eyes flicking from Lily to the blood.

They moved quickly. Monitors were checked, someone pressed for emergency supplies. The doctor’s face was tight. “We need to take her to the operating room now,” he said, voice clipped with fear and authority. “Prep her immediately.”

David felt the world tilt. He watched as the team worked, hands efficient and steady.

Marina stood numb, one hand still touching her face, the other dangling uselessly at her side.

David didn’t leave Lily’s side. He held her hand until the stretcher came. He kept whispering to her, small things, promises he didn’t know if he could keep.

“Hold on. Please, hold on,” he kept telling her, though his voice kept catching.
