The bedroom door creaked open and a small figure stepped out. David’s expression softened.
"Come here. Your mum left," he said. "Let’s have breakfast and then we’ll go out."
Danish brightened right away. He had only learned who his father just few minutes ago, but he already liked being near him.
After breakfast, David took Danish to the office with him. He had an important meeting to attend. As soon as he stepped into the building holding a small boy’s hand, every employee stared in shock.
Who is that child?
Whispers started everywhere.
Roy hurried over the moment he spotted the seven-year-old next to David. If David hadn’t told him last night, Roy might have fainted on the spot.
"Hi," Roy said, waving gently at Danish.
"This is my assistant, Roy" David told his son. "If you need anything, you can go to him. You can trust him like you trust me."
Danish nodded and gave Roy a polite little bow with a smile. Roy froze. David did too. Lily had clearly raised him well.
As they walked out of the elevator, employees stared openly. David rarely spoke to them unless necessary, but today he stopped.
"This is my son. Danish Hardison," he said. "He’ll be coming to my office from now on. I hope everyone takes good care of him."
Shock spread through the room. People exchanged looks like they couldn’t believe what they were hearing.
"Boss… when did you get married? Or… is he from your girlfriend?" one new female employee blurted. Her coworker hit her arm right away, eyes wide in panic. Nobody ever talked to David like that.
The older employees had almost forgotten what David used to be like before those seven silent years. He had become colder, harsher. A tiny mistake could cost someone their job. But today he didn’t look angry at all. He was actually smiling.
"No. I don’t have a girlfriend," David said. "I have a wife. I’m married."
He lifted his hand and showed them the ring they had seen on him for years. No one had known if he was married for real or not. His wedding had been such a quiet matter that the rumors faded over time. No one had ever seen his wife.
Until now, they had never even imagined their cold boss had a family.
Roy was shocked when David announced he was married. They were already divorced, and Roy had no idea what David was trying to do. But since David had a meeting, he left Danish in his office with some toys and went to the meeting room.
Right after David walked out, Danish’s smartwatch buzzed.
“Mum,” he said softly and answered the call.
“Babe, how are you doing? Where are you?” Lily asked. She was on her way to her own meeting and wanted to check on him.
“Mum, I’m fine. Dad is really good. Mum, you know… Dad introduced me to everyone. He said he’s married with you,” Danish said, telling her everything.
