Jabco watched her carefully while he also eat, saying nothing.

After a few bites, she put the spoon down.

“That’s enough,” she said.

He didn’t argue.

“Okay,” he said. “That’s fine.”

He stood up and took her plate away, like it was the most natural thing in the world.

As he moved around the kitchen, Riyana watched him quietly.

Her heart was full of confusion.

When he came back, he didn’t sit immediately.

Instead, he stood beside her chair and rested a hand lightly on her shoulder.

“You’re tired,” he said softly. “You should rest now"

She nodded.

Jabco’s phone suddenly started ringing on the table, the sharp sound cutting through the quiet of the room.

The night had been calm until that moment, almost too calm, the kind of silence that made every little sound feel louder than it should.

“You go to bed. I’ll take this call,” Jabco said casually, but there was a rush in his

movement that did not match his calm tone.

Riyana nodded, though her eyes followed him without meaning to.

She watched as he hurried toward the table, picked up the phone, and glanced at the screen. Something shifted on his face in that instant. It was quick, but she saw it. A flicker of something he tried to hide. Instinctively, he turned his body slightly away from her, as if he did not want her to see his reaction.

That alone was enough to make her chest tighten.

He did not say a word to her. Instead, he walked straight toward the sliding door that led to the balcony and stepped outside, pulling it shut behind him. Not forcefully, but firmly. Like he had already decided she would not be part of this conversation.

Riyana stayed where she was, frozen for a moment. Her mind was already working, already filling the silence with questions.

Why did he need to hide a phone call from her? What could be so secret that he could not even speak in the same room?

She stood up slowly and moved closer to the glass door, not close, just standing near enough to watch him. Outside, the night wrapped around him. The city lights reflected faintly on the glass, but she could still see him clearly enough.

He was speaking into the phone now, his voice too low for her to hear. But his face told her more than words could. His jaw was tight. His free hand moved sharply through the air as if he were emphasizing every sentence. There was frustration in his posture, and anger too. The kind that sat heavy in the shoulders.

This was not a normal call. Not work, not casual conversation. This was something serious. Something that mattered.
