My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 397

Every time she bought something, the same thought came back.

Jabco should have been here.

He should have been standing beside her, awkward and quiet, pretending not to care but secretly touching the clothes too. He should have argued about colors. He should have worried about money even though he didn’t need to. He should have placed his hand on her belly and smiled that rare, soft smile meant only for her.

But that version of life no longer existed.

Her chest tightened.

After Kyndly left that day, everything had fallen apart so fast she barely understood it herself. She hadn’t planned to leave. She hadn’t packed dreams or goodbye letters. She had just… walked away.

Maybe she had been running. Maybe she had been protecting herself.

She knew Jabco would look for her. That was exactly why she erased herself. She left no trace. Changed numbers. Cut people off. Even her own mother.

The day she heard Jabco had gone to her mother asking about her, something inside her broke quietly. She couldn’t face it. She couldn’t face him. His betrayal had cut too deep, and she didn’t have the strength to watch him choose his ex again while she stood there, pregnant and unwanted.

He must be happy now, she thought bitterly. Back with her. Free.

Her vision blurred.

“Ma’am?”

The staff’s voice pulled her back.

Riyana blinked and realized tears had slipped down her cheeks. She hadn’t even noticed when they started.

“Are you okay?” the girl asked gently, worry clear on her face.

“Yes,” Riyana said quickly, embarrassed. She wiped her face with the back of her hand. “I’m sorry. Hormones.”

The girl smiled in understanding and stepped back, giving her space.

Riyana took a deep breath and forced herself to focus. She picked a few unisex clothes, folded neatly, practical choices. No pink. No blue. Just safe colors. Things she could manage.

Stella came running over, holding a small stuffed toy. “Can I have this?”

Riyana looked down at her and nodded. “Alright. Put it back for now, we’ll buy it next time.”

Stella pouted for half a second, then smiled again like children always do.

They paid and stepped back outside.

The noise hit her again. Fireworks cracked in the sky. People cheered.

By the time they reached home, Riyana felt completely drained. Her feet hurt. Her back ached. The weight of the day pressed down on her.

Nom came to take Stella as soon as they entered.

“Nom, look after Stella, okay?” Riyana said softly.

“Yes, ma’am,” Nom replied with a nod.

Stella barely looked up from her toys as Riyana walked away.

In her room, Riyana placed the shopping bags on the floor and sighed. She kicked off her shoes slowly. As she passed the window, something outside caught her eye.

A car.

Parked not far from the house.

Her heart skipped.

She pulled the curtain aside just a little. The same car. She was sure now. She had seen it in the morning. She had seen it again when they left in the afternoon.
