His sudden outburst made Lily flinch slightly, her body tensing at his tone. She turned her face away, swallowing the lump in her throat before snapping back, “You really don’t know? Then explain to me how LM got my work!”
Her voice cracked with anger and frustration. She didn’t even need to hold the real jewelry in her hands to recognize her designs; just a single glance at those pictures online was enough to know they were hers. They had been stolen. And for that to happen, it had to be someone close to her, someone who had access to her sketches and drafts. Her chest tightened as her thoughts turned toward David. He was ruthless in business, but… could he really stoop this low? She wanted to believe he wouldn’t. And yet, she couldn’t think of anyone else to blame.
“Your designs?” David repeated, his brows furrowed. “You’re a jewelry designer?”
Lily’s heart skipped a beat. She had slipped. He didn’t know she was Aurora, the mysterious designer behind their brand’s success. To him, she was just Aurora’s secretary, nothing more. She quickly tried to fix her mistake.
“Aurora’s work is my work,” she said quickly, her voice steady despite the panic clawing inside her. “I work for her, and if her reputation is ruined because of this, I’ll be the one to blame.”
She lowered her gaze, hoping he wouldn’t press further.
David ran his fingers through his hair, frustrated. “Fine,” he said firmly. “I didn’t do this. But I’ll find out who’s behind it. You’ll have to give me every detail.”
His tone was serious now, steady and calculated. If he’d done this, he would’ve owned up to it already. This wasn’t his style. But deep down, he could see the opportunity in front of him.
“Why would you help me?” Lily asked, her voice laced with doubt. She didn’t trust him—not after everything.
“Because you don’t have a choice,” David replied bluntly, stepping closer to her. “You know I’m connected. I know the CEO of LM personally. If you want this solved, you need me. Otherwise, you’ll just dig yourself deeper. And proving those designs are yours? That’ll take time. You don’t have that luxury, do you?”
Lily stayed silent, his words sinking into her mind. She hated that he was right. Clients were already pulling back, whispers of doubt spreading. If she didn’t act quickly, it wouldn’t just be her designs at risk—it would be everything she’d built.
“Alright,” she said quietly. “But I know you, David. You don’t do anything without expecting something in return. What do you want from me?”
A slow, dark smile curled on his lips as he stepped closer, his presence filling the space between them. Lily’s heartbeat quickened, a mixture of fear and defiance tightening in her chest.
He stopped in front of her and slipped one hand around her waist, the other resting gently but firmly at the back of her neck.
