Chapter 8
“Evelyn…?”
Nathaniel froze the moment he saw me.
I slammed the takeover proposal onto the table, twisted my freshly manicured nails, and shot him a sidelong
glance.
“Take a look,” I said.
“This offer is more than fair.”
“It’s just enough to redeem the Reed Estate.”
“Mr. and Mrs. Bennett are getting older-they deserve a place to stay.”
“Don’t you think so?”
Red veins spread across Nathaniel’s eyes.
He slapped the proposal to the floor.
“What are you trying to do?!” he roared.
“If it weren’t for you, would Reed Group be in this state?!”
“You engineered our divorce!”
“And now you come back with this grand plan to buy out Reed Group?!”
“I absolutely won’t allow it!”
Watching his outrage, I couldn’t help but smirk.
“Shouldn’t that question be for me to ask you?” I said, locking eyes with him.
“What exactly are you trying to do?”
“And which personality are you now?”
My words seemed to throw him off. Nathaniel’s panic flickered across his face.
“How long were you planning to keep this from me?” I pressed.
His expression shifted back to calm, almost smug.
“How long have you known?” he asked.
“All of this… was your plan, wasn’t it?”
“My plan?”

I laughed softly, looking around the conference room and shaking my head.
“Nathaniel, even now you don’t know what I’ve done for you.”
“You don’t really think your little schemes are that impressive, do you?”
“Your meteoric rise in business? All thanks to my family’s support.”
Nathaniel gripped the edge of the table.
“No way…” he muttered.
“You always said your hometown was some tiny fishing village.”
“Yeah,” I tilted my head. “But thanks to some government support, the town grew fast-and my family
happened to be the first to take advantage of it.”
“Bennett Group-you’ve heard of it, haven’t you?”
“That’s my father’s company, built from scratch.”
Nathaniel’s pupils dilated.
The most famous company in the country… belonged to his ex-wife’s family.
“All the support for your early ventures came from Bennett Group.”
“You were stupid enough not to notice?”
I gave him a faint, contemptuous hum.
“Pathetic.”
“This isn’t fair!” he suddenly yelled. “Why didn’t you ever tell me about your influential family?!”
“I wanted to tell you,” I said, blinking.
“At our wedding.”
“But you were in the middle of a personality switch, postponing the ceremony again and again, weren’t you?”
Nathaniel choked on the words.
He had long heard that Evelyn came from a small town.
But by the time the wedding was planned, he was already a renowned CEO.
He didn’t want his partners to know that his in-laws were fishermen, so he used the excuse of a split
personality to accomplish two things at once.
First, he could raise Andrew’s children with Sophia to fulfill Andrew’s wishes.

Second, he could keep postponing the wedding, making sure no one would notice how modest Evelyn’s
parents were.
He never expected that Evelyn was actually the only daughter of the Bennett Group.
Nathaniel lowered his head in defeat.
Finally, he picked up a pen and signed his name on the takeover proposal.
I confirmed the signature was legally binding, then curved my lips and put the agreement away.
As I left the room, I feigned surprise and looked back.
“Oh, one more thing,” I said.
“This buyout only covers the Reed Estate.”
“Don’t forget-your dear Sophia still owes me for the bracelet.”
