Sebastian struggled to maintain a semblance of a smile, his voice wavering under the weight of the moment. “No… Bella, it’s not what you think. We’ve always cared for you. When have we ever shown any affection for Tessa? You’re misinterpreting everything.”

His gaze flickered away for a fleeting moment, a hint of doubt creeping in. Yet, as he recalled the finality of his decision to sever ties with Tessa, a renewed sense of confidence surged within him.

“Exactly, Bella,” Ronald chimed in, eager to support Sebastian’s defense. After a brief pause where surprise danced across his features, his expression softened, revealing the warmth of his true feelings. “The one we’ve always liked has been you. We’re still waiting for your answer. How could we possibly be interested in anyone else?”

In truth, aside from the trio of themselves and Tessa, the world around them had always perceived their intentions to be directed toward Bella. Tessa had never genuinely belonged in their narrative.

“Honestly, she could drop dead for all I care. The only person who matters to me is you.”

“Bella, please, don’t make a scene. This isn’t something Tessa would ever do. And even if she did, you’re classmates. School is starting soon. There’s no need to jeopardize her future over this situation.”
