Chapter 189: The Leviathan

[Jake’s POV]

The Mediterranean Sea was pitch black, the water churning violently beneath the hull of the stealth Zodiac.

I crouched at the bow of the inflatable boat, the freezing saltwater spraying across my face. I was wearing a sleek, matte-black tactical assault suit, the heavy Kevlar corset strapped tightly around my ribs, compressing the torn stitches in my side. The pain was a constant, burning fire, a sharp, agonizing reminder of my own mortality. But I welcomed it. It kept me sharp. It kept me grounded in the brutal reality of the moment.

Darius was at the helm, guiding the Zodiac through the dark water with terrifying precision. The massive bodyguard looked like a demon rising from the depths, his eyes locked onto the target ahead.

Looming ahead of us, illuminated by the harsh glare of its own security floodlights, was the Siren’s Call. It wasn’t just a yacht; it was a floating fortress. Three hundred feet of armored steel, tinted glass, and lethal intent. It was a monument to Isabella Vane’s arrogance, and I was going to sink it. The sheer scale of the vessel was staggering. It was a floating city of excess and power, a physical manifestation of the billions she had extorted from the European elite. But tonight, it was just a target. A massive, steel-hulled coffin waiting to be breached. I checked the action on my Glock one last time, the familiar, heavy weight of the weapon grounding me. I didn’t have the System’s predictive algorithms to tell me how many men were waiting inside. I didn’t have the regenerative protocols to save me if I made a mistake. I was entirely mortal, bleeding and exhausted, running on nothing but adrenaline and a promise I had made to myself two years ago.

"Proximity alarms are blaring," Darius rumbled over the roar of the outboard motor. "They know we’re coming. The element of surprise is gone."

"Isabella wants us to know she’s watching," I said, my voice cold and absolute. "She’s inviting us in. Bring us in hard. We breach the rear swim platform."

Darius didn’t slow down. He slammed the throttle forward, the Zodiac launching over the crest of a wave and slamming brutally into the padded bumpers of the yacht’s rear boarding deck.

I didn’t wait for the boat to stabilize. I vaulted over the pontoon, landing heavily on the teak deck of the Siren’s Call. The impact sent a blinding spike of agony through my abdomen, but I gritted my teeth, drawing my suppressed Glock 19 and bringing it up in a smooth, practiced motion.

Darius was right behind me, his massive frame moving with unnatural speed, his MP5 leveled.

The rear deck was empty. The sliding glass doors leading into the lower hull were wide open, a dark, gaping maw waiting to swallow us whole.

"It’s a funnel," Darius warned, his eyes scanning the dark interior. "They are drawing us into the narrow corridors of the lower decks. Close-quarters combat. Overlapping fields of fire. It’s a suicide trap."

"Then we break their lines," I said.

I stepped through the glass doors, entering the belly of the beast.

The interior of the lower deck was a labyrinth of narrow, polished mahogany corridors and steel bulkheads. The blaring klaxons had been cut, replaced by an eerie, suffocating silence. The only sound was the deep, rhythmic thrum of the yacht’s massive diesel engines beneath our feet. The air smelled of expensive wood polish and the sharp, metallic tang of impending violence. The contrast between the opulent surroundings and the brutal reality of our mission was jarring. We were walking through a billionaire’s playground, surrounded by priceless art and imported marble, but every shadow held a killer. Every doorway was a potential fatal funnel. I kept my breathing slow and controlled, ignoring the agonizing throb in my side. The combat corset was holding, but I could feel the warm, sticky dampness of fresh blood seeping into the heavy Kevlar. I was on a ticking clock. If I didn’t end this soon, my own body was going to betray me.

We moved forward, clearing the first two intersections with methodical precision.

Without the System’s Oracle, I couldn’t see through the walls. I couldn’t predict where the ambush would happen. I had to rely entirely on raw instinct and the sheer, overwhelming aura of violence I had cultivated over the last two years. Every shadow was a threat. Every corner was a potential kill zone.

As we approached the central stairwell, the ambush was sprung.

Four Spetsnaz mercenaries stepped out from behind the steel bulkheads, their assault rifles raised, the narrow corridor leaving us absolutely no cover. They were heavily armored, their faces hidden behind tactical visors.

They expected us to dive back. They expected us to seek cover and engage in a protracted firefight.

I didn’t stop moving.

I didn’t flinch. I didn’t break stride. I walked directly toward them, my eyes locked onto the lead mercenary, projecting an aura of absolute, terrifying invincibility. I raised my Glock and fired three times in rapid succession.

The suppressed shots were whisper-quiet, but the results were devastating. The first two rounds punched through the lead mercenary’s visor, dropping him instantly. The third round caught the man next to him in the throat, a spray of dark blood painting the mahogany wall.

The remaining two mercenaries hesitated. It was only a fraction of a second, but in close-quarters combat, hesitation is death. They were looking at a man who had just taken a sniper round to the gut, walking through their kill box like a god of war.
