My Milf Conqueror System novel Chapter 191

Chapter 191: The master key

[Jake’s POV]

The spiral staircase felt like a mountain.

With every step I took, the torn muscle in my abdomen screamed in protest. The heavy combat corset was soaked through with blood, the sticky warmth spreading down my hip and soaking into the fabric of my tactical pants. My vision was tunneling, the edges of the world turning dark and fuzzy as the blood loss and sheer physical exhaustion threatened to drag me under.

I didn’t have Oracle to regulate my adrenaline. I didn’t have the System to numb the pain. I was operating on nothing but raw, violent willpower. Every breath was a conscious effort. Every movement was a defiance of my own mortality. The pain was no longer just a physical sensation; it was a heavy, suffocating blanket trying to drag me down into the dark. But I couldn’t stop. I had come too far. I had burned too much of the world to let my own body fail me now. I forced my legs to move, one agonizing step at a time.

I reached the top of the stairs, stepping onto the plush, blood-red carpet of the upper hallway.

At the far end of the corridor were the massive, double oak doors leading to the master stateroom. Isabella Vane was behind those doors. The woman who had broken me in Vienna. The woman who had tried to burn my empire to the ground. The architect of my suffering.

But standing between me and the doors was a monster.

Grigori.

The massive Spetsnaz operative was leaning heavily against the wall, his right leg completely useless, blood pouring from a shattered kneecap. But he wasn’t defeated. He was holding a massive, serrated combat knife, and his eyes were burning with the desperate, cornered fury of a wounded animal. He looked like a man who had nothing left to lose.

"She shot me," Grigori snarled, his thick Russian accent thick with hatred. He pushed himself off the wall, balancing precariously on his good leg. "The mad bitch shot me just to slow you down. She wants to watch us bleed."

"Then step aside," I said, my voice raspy, raising my Glock. "You don’t have to die for her. The empire is gone."

"I am not dying for her," Grigori spat, his knuckles turning white around the hilt of his knife. "I am killing you so I can take the helicopter and leave this cursed ship. I am going to survive."

I pulled the trigger.

Click.

The Glock was empty. I had burned through my last magazine in the dining room.

I dropped the useless weapon onto the carpet. I didn’t have a spare. I didn’t have a rifle. I reached down to my tactical harness and drew my own combat knife, the matte-black steel gleaming in the dim light of the hallway.

Grigori laughed, a wet, ragged sound. Even with a shattered knee, he outweighed me by eighty pounds, and he had decades of brutal, hand-to-hand combat experience. And I was bleeding out. I was a wounded man facing a desperate killer.

"You are a dead man, Hart," Grigori growled.

He lunged.

Despite his ruined leg, his upper body strength was terrifying. He drove forward, slashing the serrated blade in a wide, decapitating arc.

I didn’t try to block it. I didn’t have the strength to meet his force head-on. I dropped to one knee, the sudden movement sending a blinding spike of agony through my torn stitches, and let his blade whistle inches over my head.

I drove my own knife upward, aiming for his exposed ribs.

Grigori was too fast. He twisted his torso, taking the glancing blow on his heavy Kevlar vest, and brought the heavy pommel of his knife crashing down onto my shoulder.

The impact drove me flat against the floor. The breath exploded from my lungs, my vision flashing with brilliant white static. The pain in my side flared into a roaring inferno.

Grigori didn’t hesitate. He dropped his massive weight onto my chest, pinning me to the carpet, and raised his knife high above his head for the killing strike.

"Die!" he roared, his face twisted in a mask of pure hatred.

I didn’t panic. I didn’t have the System to slow down time, but I had the brutal, unforgiving instincts I had honed over two years in the shadows. I had survived Vienna. I had survived the snow. I was not going to die on this ship.

As Grigori drove the knife down toward my throat, I didn’t try to catch his wrist. I shifted my weight violently to the left, ignoring the tearing sensation in my abdomen, and brought my right knee up, driving it directly into his shattered, bleeding kneecap.

The Russian let out a deafening, agonizing scream.

His entire body seized, his downward strike faltering for a fraction of a second. The pain of the impact on his ruined joint was absolute.

It was all I needed.
