But then-
Ray noticed that although the entry barrier he’d smashed earlier was still broken, several heavy stone bollards had been placed across the road, blocking the entrance.
Inside the security booth sat more than a dozen elderly men. The moment they saw Ray return, excitement lit up their faces.
Ray lowered the car window slightly. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“Ray, we’re about to starve and die of thirst,” one of the old men said, pushing open the window. “You have to give us food and water. Otherwise, we won’t let you back in.”
There was a roof over the booth that kept the hail off them, but it did nothing against the wind or the cold. As soon as the window opened, icy air rushed in, making all of them shiver violently.
Ray laughed. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll use force?”
“Heh, we’re not idiots,” one of them said with a grin. To Ray’s surprise, the old men each pulled out a toy water gun and aimed them at him.
They were the most basic kind–hand–pumped plastic toys with a single tube of capacity, good for maybe three to five meters at best. But if Ray got out of the car to move the stone blocks, or tried to walk in, they could easily spray him.
It didn’t take a genius to know what was inside those guns. It definitely wasn’t clean water–it was melted poison hail.
Ray smiled. In weather this cold, if he stalled for time, the liquid inside the guns would freeze solid. When it turned into a tube full of ice, what were they going to squeeze out then?
Still, he had no interest in wasting time on a pack of old men.
He slammed the accelerator. The SUV surged forward, the reinforced bull bar smashing into the stone blocks. With the engine’s brute force, two of the bollards were shoved aside, utterly unable to stop the G–Class.
Ray then backed up slightly, adjusted his angle, and drove past the remaining obstruction.
But he didn’t just leave.
Instead, he pulled out two packs of instant noodles and tossed them toward the security booth.
The old men were bitterly disappointed. Ray had been far too decisive–he’d just plowed straight through their blockade. Were they supposed to stand in front of the car and fake an accident?
The way people were these days, he would’ve run them over without a second thought.
But then he’d tossed out two packs of instant noodles.
That, they couldn’t resist.
They poured out of the guard booth like a swarm, scrambling over the noodles in a frantic brawl.
Don’t be fooled by how frail and pitiful they usually looked, or how quick they were to demand a seat on the bus. Faced with the temptation of two packs of instant noodles, every one of them erupted with startling strength, lunging like hungry wolves.

A punch here, a kick there–that was still tame. Some of the old bastards were downright ruthless, aiming straight for the groin.
“Ah-!”
Screams and muffled groans filled the air.
From inside the car, Ray watched the whole mess through the glass, a faint smirk playing on his lips.
See? That little alliance fell apart in an instant.
That was human nature.
