Ray and Molly set off.
As the G–Class roared out of the garage, many residents in the community peered from their windows. Among them was Jon.
He turned to the men inside the building. “Boys, time to get to work!”
“Yeah!” The men shouted back, each clutching one or two women. After planting a few wild kisses on their faces, they stood, grinning and ready.
They planned to build an impenetrable barricade at the community gate, forcing Ray to stop. Then, they’d rush out and use wheel locks to trap the G–Class. Once immobilized, Ray would be like a turtle in a jar, completely at their mercy.
Inside the villa, he was untouchable–a steel tortoise. But outside? He was just one man. One man, no matter how dangerous, could be taken down with a plan.
“Ray, all you had to do was lend us the car. You had to push us to act!” Jon sneered, crushing out the last cigarette in his hand.
It was the final smoke. Desperate to seize the G–Class for himself, he wanted to head out, scour supermarkets for supplies- especially cigarettes. One could go a day without food, but not without smoke. Without it, the body screamed for relief.
As the G–Class rolled out of the community gate, Molly glanced over her shoulder. “Do you realize how many people in the neighborhood are watching you? They’d tear you limb from limb if they could!”
“I know,” Ray replied casually.
“You know that and still dare to drive out?” Molly couldn’t believe it.
Sure, he had a gun–but one gun–well, counting Suzanne’s and the others‘, maybe three total. Three pistols to intimidate an entire community?
Those in Building 4 had already eaten people. They were insane. You’d need a submachine gun to even scare them.
Ray chuckled. “So, you mean I should turn around and not take you to Senna University?”
“That’s not what I meant!” Molly blurted, worried he’d change his mind. If he did, her only option would be to fight him with everything she had.
“Then zip it and stop distracting me while I drive,” Ray said. “Don’t you know talking to the driver while in a moving vehicle can cause accidents?”
Molly was speechless. At twenty miles an hour, even if they hit something… what kind of accident could really happen? Besides, the car was obviously modified, with a thick and reinforced front bumper. Impressive.
She crossed her arms, staying silent.
Still, seeing Ray unafraid of danger and steadfastly keeping his promise moved her slightly.
If only she knew the truth Ray wasn’t risking himself for her. He wanted to train, hunt other ability users, and possibly find mutated beasts. She was just a side bonus.
Under Ray’s careful driving, half an hour later, they arrived at Senna University’s Zandaye Campus
Technically, it was the East Campus, but a moat split it into two areas. The so–called Zandaye Campus was on the east side of the
moat.
Since Ray had cleared the roads the day before, they drove smoothly.
Molly found it strange. Despite many abandoned cars some smashed, some just left haphazardly across the road–there was a
