Chapter 173
Ray drove on slowly.
Molly and Katie, both naturally impatient, were fuming silently in the back seat–but they didn’t dare urge him. Their expressions were, therefore, quite entertaining.
Jess, on the other hand, didn’t care at all. Being bold and proactive, she had already claimed the passenger seat.
Her excuse? “The sisters are reunited–better sit together and have a proper chat.”
What a masterful display of subtle manipulation. Clearly, she intended to get closer to Ray, yet she framed it as concern for the
others. Clever. Really clever.
Throughout the drive, she chatted with him casually, weaving in compliments so smoothly that it was almost invisible.
Ray answered with short, simple responses, and she would laugh, trembling with delight, covering her mouth demurely. “Am I laughing like a shameless girl? I’m usually not like this… but you’re just too funny!”
Katie rolled her eyes violently from the back seat.
“It’s so warm in here!” Jess remarked, deliberately taking off her coat. Beneath it was a pristine white sweater. Judging by the collar, she was wearing more than one layer, yet her chest still formed an exaggerated, impossible curve.
And her waist was impossibly slender.
Her figure… was phenomenal. No wonder she could twist and turn so seductively even in bulky winter clothes. It was almost
absurd.
Ray’s gaze flickered with heat. Jess noticed instantly and, mischievously, brushed her hand lightly against his arm.
What a little enchantress.
Yet, Ray was decisive–he caught her hand and returned it to its place. He couldn’t afford distractions while driving.
After all, safety always came first, no matter how many supplies were loaded in the car. He had no intention of dying young with all that cargo aboard.
Nearly two hours later, they finally returned to the residential complex.
But the entrance was blocked–a “wall” had been hastily erected.
It was a crude structure, cobbled together from furniture, appliances, and cement blocks. At three meters thick, even the horsepower of the G–Class probably wouldn’t be enough to break through.
Then seven people burst out of the guardhouse, holding car–locking devices, clearly intending to trap the G–Class in place.
Where could Ray escape to now? Starvation alone could finish them off eventually.
No doubt – it had to be the group from Building 4. They had failed to borrow the car before, and now, their true intentions were laid bare.
Ray shook his head. Some people just never learn.
He decided not to hold back.
A rocket appeared out of nowhere and shot straight for the gate.
