Chapter 201
Oh? What was this?

As Ray reached the final gas station scheduled for the day, he saw a group of people swarming around the fuel storage area, busy at work–prying open oil tanks and siphoning fuel.
A quick count showed seven of them working, while two others sat inside a vehicle–a heavy–duty truck.
Well, that figured. Without a big truck, how much fuel could they possibly haul back?
What made Ray’s face darken, though, was this: to keep warm, these idiots had actually lit a fire in a washbasin right beside them.
Were they out of their minds? Right next to fuel tanks, and they dared to start a fire just to stay warm?
Ray didn’t even dare to step closer.
It wasn’t that he was afraid of these people. What worried him was that one slip–a fire basin tipping toward the tanks–and the whole place would go up in a massive explosion.
This was no joke.
His reflexes and danger sense might allow him to open a spatial portal in time, but that portal was a flat plane. It could only absorb flames and shockwaves coming straight at it. In a real explosion, the fire and shockwaves would swirl in every direction. Besides, while the spatial portal itself could absorb any attack, its “frame” could not. Ray had tested it before by smashing stones into it. The impact caused backlash to his body–the greater the force, the stronger the recoil.
So if he got hit by a massive explosion, he couldn’t guarantee he’d survive the backlash.
Sure enough, the scariest thing in the world was idiots.
Ray shook his head. He didn’t dare start a fight here either. One stray bullet, one high–energy steel bar missing its mark, and if it hit a fuel tank–boom.
“Huh? Someone’s here!”
“Yo, that’s a G–Class, isn’t it?”
“Off–roaders are made for rough terrain–and this one looks modified too-”
“Rob him!”
The seven who’d been working exchanged glances, then rushed over together.
Since they’d been prying open fuel tanks, they were all holding tools–hammers, wrenches, whatever they had on hand. Now, those tools became weapons, and they charged at him with vicious expressions.
Ray had more than enough time to get back in his car and leave.
But did he really need to be afraid of these seven?
What he feared was stray fire hitting a fuel tank, or the fire basin being knocked over and triggering an explosion. But now that all seven had moved away from the tanks, what was there left to fear?
In fact, Ray calmly opened the car door and stepped out.
Whoosh!
A wrench flew straight at him. Fast. Precise. Aimed squarely at his head.

They were trying to kill him.
Ray’s expression didn’t change. He lifted his hand and caught the wrench.
All seven of them froze, eyes wide with shock.
The wrench had been spinning as it flew, fast as a powered fan. To catch it barehanded required terrifying eyesight and pinpoint
accuracy.
For ordinary people, this would have been nearly impossible. But Ray’s physical condition far surpassed that of normal humans. Even without using any special abilities, this was effortless for him.
Ray looked at the man who had attacked him and gave a cold smile. With a flick of his wrist, the wrench shot back like a meteor, hurtling toward its original owner.
The man didn’t even have time to react. By the time he saw the black shadow rapidly filling his vision, it was already too late. The wrench struck—and his consciousness vanished. His head split open. Dead on the spot.
Ray brushed his hands together, as if he’d just done something utterly trivial.
“Mateo!”
The others shouted in horror. They watched as Mateo slowly fell backward, staring up at the sky. A wrench was embedded squarely in his face, sunk in a good two or three inches.
