Chapter 205
Oh?
Ray looked at them with a faintly amused smile, but he didn’t bother saying anything dramatic or posturing
There was no need. Anyone who dared threaten him was already a corpse in the making
Since they were all as good as dead, why waste words?
Of course, he still needed to leave one alive for questioning.
“Get him!” The man who had spoken earlier waved his hand sharply, and the others immediately rushed forward.
None of them had guns. Wrenches and hammers were their weapons.
Ray smiled. More than a dozen bullets shot out at once. Immediately, blood blossomed on every forehead as they dropped, stone
dead.
Only one person was spared–the man who had just threatened Ray.
Ray let him live, not out of spite–he wasn’t that petty–but because the man looked like a leader and likely knew more.
“Y–you–you-” the man stammered, unable to form a complete sentence.
Ray patted him on the shoulder. “Come on. Let’s get in the car and talk.”
It was too cold outside.
Did the man dare disobey? Of course not. He obediently climbed into the car.
“What should I call you?” Ray asked.
The man was stunned first of all by how warm the car was.
They had driven here too, yet every one of them had been freezing like dogs. But this car–this car was unbelievably warm.
“My surname is Hamley. Richard Hamley,” the man said ingratiatingly. “I didn’t recognize greatness when I saw it. Please, be magnanimous and don’t hold it against me. Just treat me like a fart and let me go.”
Ray ignored the groveling. “Let’s talk about the Hope Camp.”
“Yes, yes, no problem,” Richard replied quickly, looking the very picture of reasonableness.
It didn’t take long for Ray to gain a clear understanding of the Hope Camp’s basic situation.
In fact, from the very beginning, the Hope Camp had not belonged to the government at all. It belonged to a pharmaceutical group–and one controlled by foreign capital. Previously, it had been an underground, secret research center. As for exactly what they were researching, Richard didn’t know.
After the catastrophe, the research center seemed to achieve a breakthrough in some experiment and became desperate for living humans for clinical trials. But at first, with the toxic hall and thick tog, no one dared to leave–and in truth, no one could.
Once the toxic hail stopped and the fog shifted into a pattern of dispersing during the day and re–forming at night, the research center sent people out. Their goals were twofold: to search for energy, and to trick people into returning as test subjects.
Using the name “Hope Camp,” along with the pretense of government construction, was naturally meant to make people
believe.
As for how strong the Hope Camp actually was, Richard had no idea.
detalls
He was just a minor leader, not qualified to know deeper detalls–let alone core secrets.
Chapter 205
25 Borus
The research center was located on Caesar Island.
Ray rubbed his nose. The Finley family estate was on Dolmein, the Hope Camp on Caesar Island. Had they coordinated this?
Dolmein and Caesar were both in the Tenlix region, but Caesar was an island, while Dolmein wasn’t
The straight–line distance between them was very short. With the current temperatures, the lake surface would be frozen solid. With a hovercraft, you could drive straight across.
Why a hovercraft instead of a snowmobile? Because a hovercraft had an enclosed cabin–one, it blocked the wind, two, it could be fitted with heating. A snowmobile couldn’t.
