Killian Miles was a resident of the complex.
A few days earlier, he had risked going out to find his cousin, who worked on a construction crew.
For what purpose? To blow up Ray’s villa, eliminate Ray, and take his place.
It was a two–pronged plan. First, lure Ray out of the villa and kill him. Second, if that failed, blow the villa apart directly.
But when Killian returned to the complex, he found that it had become a city of the dead.
Everyone was dead.
Some had clearly been killed. Others, however, had not–they had starved to death, died of thirst, or frozen to death. The sight left him confused and deeply terrified. Then, that morning, when he saw Ray walk out of the villa, a chilling suspicion rose in his
heart.
Everyone had been killed by Ray.
He didn’t know what had happened, but the sheer number of corpses was a bloody, undeniable fact, and it filled him with fear.
“Killian, are you sure there are a lot of supplies in that villa?” Edward Martin asked from beside him.
Killian nodded vigorously. “I’m sure! But you’ve seen it yourself. This neighborhood was once bustling with people. Now almost everyone’s dead. I don’t know exactly what happened, but ninety–nine percent of it has to do with Ray!
“Edward, I think we should just forget it. Let’s not throw our own lives away.”
Edward looked thoughtful, then nodded. “You’re right. Just the two of us–even if we blow up the villa, we might not be able to handle Ray. Come on, let’s go find my boss.”
Killian immediately felt reluctant.
edward’s boss got involved, then neither he nor Edward would have much of a say anymore. Even if they managed to take the
ow much would he actually get?
his hesitation, Edward sneered. “You said it yourself–Ray likely killed everyone in the complex. You were already ng out just now. Since we don’t have the ability to take it all ourselves, why not cooperate with others? Even if you don’t get eat the meat, at least you can sip some soup!”
Killian was still unwilling. The construction crew were all rough men, and who knew how long it had been since they’d been with a woman? If they got into the villa, wouldn’t beauties like Honey be ruined by them?
He dreamed of that woman whose every smile was enchanting. He didn’t want to sleep with a toy that had already been broken.
But… his cousin was right. Without more people, they had no chance of breaking into the villa. It would be like fishing for the moon’s reflection in water–utterly meaningless.
In the end, he nodded. “Fine.”
As soon as he said it, a wave of helplessness washed over him. Now, he had no initiative lett–no bargaining power at all.
“Let’s go find my boss!” Edward said, ready to leave at once, only to be grabbed by Killian
“Are you crazy? The fog’s so thick outside right now. You want to get lost and freeze to death?” Killian said urgently,
Edward slapped his forehead. “Thirty days into the disaster, and I still haven’t adapted. Then we’ll stay here for the night. Tomorrow morning, we’ll go find my boss and make it back before nightfall. Heh–by then, we’ll take this place.”
Killian nodded. With a bang, the cold wind blew the window open, and both men shuddered, hugging their arms.

They hurried to shut the window.
“Oh, right–I should warn you first,” Edward suddenly seemed to remember something. “My boss isn’t easy to deal with. It’s fine for me and the crew, but you’re an outsider. When you meet him, you’d better kneel first and keep your head as low as possible. Got it?”
