Chapter 34
Just then, someone knocked on the door.
Ray thought it was the drunken man and wondered when the latter had suddenly found the courage. He looked through the peephole and saw that it was actually Lauren.
Was he surprised? Not at all.
If anything, Ray felt a little puzzled that his ex–wife had taken until today to come looking for him.
“Ray, I know you’re in there,” Lauren said, forcing her voice to sound as gentle as possible. “Open the door. I have something I want to talk to you about.”
What could she possibly say?
Nothing more than, “I was wrong. Please forgive me,” or “I’ll be good to you from now on,” right?
And the real purpose? His lottery winnings.
If Lauren knew that the money had already grown to over a hundred million, her enthusiasm would probably multiply tenfold. She’d cut ties with her family without hesitation.
‘Fine. I’ll play along,‘ he mused.
The apocalypse hadn’t arrived yet, and he couldn’t hurt her or her people for now–so he might as well toy with her a little more.
“If you have something to say, just say it out there,” Ray replied calmly.
Lauren’s heart leapt.
Since that dinner incident, this was the first time she’d been able to “talk to him face to face.”
The fact that he was willing to respond to her at all felt like progress.
“Ray, I know I was wrong in the past,” she said in an extremely sincere tone. “I also know that no matter what I say, I can’t make up for the hurt I caused you! But I have to tell you this–deep down, the only person I’ve ever loved is you!
“The reason I got pregnant with Zac’s bastard child was actually because… he raped me! I’m also a victim!” She started crying.
Ray was stunned.
She could just make up such a lie so casually. How shameless.
And she really thought he was an idiot.
He laughed inwardly, but said in a half–believing, half–doubting tone, “Really? Zac was that despicable?”
“Yes, yes, yes!” Lauren nodded repeatedly, secretly thinking, ‘He really is that naive—just a few words and he believes me. He is still the same as before.‘

Then she heard Ray say, “Then you should report him to the police. Sue him for rape.”
Lauren froze, completely dumbfounded.
Report Zac for rape? Did she dare confront him head–on? If it came to that, and Zac told the truth about everything between them, would she ever be able to get back together with Ray?
Thinking fast, she blurted out, “It’s been too long. I didn’t collect any evidence. I can’t sue him.”
“No evidence? That’s fine. For women, as long as you withdraw consent, it counts as rape,” Ray said.
‘You’ve watched too many short videos on social media,‘ she complained to herself.
But did she dare criticize him now? Of course, not! She wouldn’t argue with someone who had 40 million dollars. “Ray, forget it. Let’s just let the past be the past,” she said softly. “Now that Michael is dead, there’s no obstacle between us anymore. Let’s get back together, okay? Ray, I know you like children. I’ll give you a son.”
Ray almost burst out laughing.
