My Reborn Apocalypse Begins with a Divorce novel Chapter 38

Chapter 38

Ray and Keisha went out to eat breakfast.

After eating, Ray took her to buy a car.

Since he had bought a GClass there last time, he didn’t bother going to other car dealerships. He brought Keisha straight back to the same place.

A big spender like him was, of course, treated like royalty. The moment they walked in, they were given top- class service. In the end, Ray bought a car that cost a little over 50,000 dollars and registered it directly under Keisha’s name.

This made Keisha so happy she almost lost control, kissing Ray over and over again.

The salesgirl was green with envy as she watched.

A car worth over 50,000 dollars, given away just like that? She wanted that life too.

Unfortunately, first, she wasn’t as pretty as Keisha, and second, her figure was far worse. No matter how hard she squeezed her eyes trying to flirt, Ray didn’t even glance at her.

After buying the car, Ray and Keisha parted ways.

He had real business to handle. He went to the warehouse and started stockpiling supplies again.

All kinds of things, everything you could imagine.

For example, firewood for the fireplace.

At the beginning of the apocalypse, although the outside temperature would drop to more than ten degrees below zero, as long as you had airconditioning or floor heating at home, you could easily keep the indoor temperature above 20 degrees. But the problem was, by the fourth day, the power would be cut.

Without electricity, the airconditioning and floor heating wouldn’t work.

That was why, when Ray had the villa renovated, he insisted on installing a fireplace. It could burn firewood, and firewood wasn’t like gasoline or diesel, which were limited goods. As long as you had money, you could buy as much as you wanted without anyone coming to check on you.

Fresh water was a resource just as precious as food.

After the disaster began, apart from bottled purified water, there wouldn’t be any unpolluted water sources left.

You could get pure water through distillation, but first, the efficiency was too low, and second, boiling water required energy. When the future brought power and gas outages, how were you supposed to boil water? Burn the wooden furniture in your house?

So drinking water was one of the key supplies Ray stockpiled in large quantities.

Besides collecting tap water, Ray also ordered water from purified water companies and had them deliver it directly by truck. It wasn’t expensive anyway, so he stocked it up first.

By a little after 5 p.m., he ended his day’s workand returned to his rental apartment.

After dinner, he went to the gym.

Keisha guided him through his training as usual. After finishing, they went home together and continued their

exercise.

A night passed.

In the morning, Keisha went to the gym for work first.

Ray slept in again.

The door was suddenly knocked loudly.

Ray was startled awake. His first reaction was that Lauren had come again.

That shouldn’t be possible. After the blow she suffered yesterday, she should be busy choosing a plastic surgery hospital by now.

He threw on a bathrobe and walked to the door. When he looked through the peephole, he saw someone standing outside whom he never could have imagined.

It was Honey, the glamorous married woman from the 17th floor.

Ray opened the door.

Ray-Honey began, but stopped when she saw he wore only a bathrobe. Her face flushed. She slipped inside and shut the door quickly, as if afraid someone might see.

It made sense. A married woman visiting a single manthe neighborhood gossip alone would be enough to keep her from ever holding her head up here again.

Ray stepped back and smiled. You came to see me about something?

Cancan you lend me some money?the woman asked. After speaking, she felt embarrassed and lowered her

head.

How much do you need?Ray asked.

Honey fidgeted with her fingers. After a while, she said, TThirty thousand!

She and Ray had only met a few times, at most in the elevator or waiting for it. They weren’t even friends, yet she asked for 30,000 dollars. Wasn’t she treating him like a fool?

Ray neither refused nor agreed. He asked, What happened?

He already had a rough guess.

Honey hesitated, then started talking. After all, you couldn’t ask someone for money without explaining why, and still expect them to lend it to you.

My husband gambles. He lost everything, and borrowed from the casino. Now they’ve come to collect. They said if we can’t pay it back in three days, they’ll make mebecome a prostitute to repay the debtAs she spoke, she began to cry.

Just as he thought.

Ray nodded. The drunk man he had encountered in the elevator before really was Honey’s husband.

How could you marry a gambler?he asked.
