Chapter 49
In Gohaven, it was common for people to stockpile some dry goods. At least, everyone had rice on hand.
But how many households made a habit of storing drinking water?
Especially those with built–in water filtration systems–just turn on the tap, and clean water flows right out. Naturally, it never occurred to them to store extra.
Honey’s family was exactly like that. They didn’t keep bottled water, so there was no sealed drinking water around. They had a few sodas left, but between yesterday and today, most of those were gone.
She wasn’t craving food, but her thirst for clean drinking water was overwhelming.
For a split second, she really wanted to accept Ray’s friend request.
But she forced herself to resist.
How could she ever give in to that scoundrel?
Besides, she still didn’t understand his intentions. If she took his water, he would undoubtedly demand something in return.
Was she really so cheap that she’d sell herself for a few bottles of water? Absolutely not.
“Hey, Honey, did you see someone posting pictures of food and clean water in the group?” A pretty young woman ran over, her face lit up with excitement.
Her name was Amanda McNair, Justin’s cousin. She was about to graduate from university and had come to Senna City looking for work, temporarily crashing at their place. Once she found a job and got her first paycheck, she planned to move out.
Honey nodded, then quickly added, “Don’t trust him. He’s not a good person. Stay away.”
Amanda nodded thoughtfully–but her eyes were already scheming. Well, worst case, she could just offer a little extra money. What could possibly go wrong?
That evening, after dinner, Ray headed out to walk the dog again.
Leo had too much pent–up energy. If he didn’t run a few laps every day, he’d be bouncing off the walls.
When they reached the underground garage, far fewer people were around this time.
Yesterday, there had been quite a few residents socializing in the common area, but today, it was nearly empty. Partly, people weren’t in the mood, and partly, it was just too cold. Only a handful remained.
But the moment they spotted Ray, they immediately swarmed him.
“Ray, do you have any extra food or clean water? I’ll buy some from you.”
“Me too, I need some.”

“Name your price. As long as it’s reasonable, I’ll take as much as you’ve got.”
“We all need food and water–you can’t just sell to one person!”
Before Ray could even respond, they started arguing among themselves.
After a heated back–and–forth, they finally turned their attention back to him.
The supplies were Ray’s. What was the point of their bickering?
Ray smiled and shook his head. “Sorry, this is all I have. I don’t know how long this disaster will last, so I need to keep it for myself.”
Now, everyone was furious.
