Both women were afraid of angering Ray. If he got upset, he might cut off all dealings with them.
‘Justin, oh Justin–do you really think that half–eaten pack of instant noodles you had this morning just fell from the sky?‘ Ray smirked.
As they placated Justin, the two women kept darting frantic glances and making desperate faces at Ray, silently begging him not to lose his temper.
Their expressions were screaming, ‘Please, not now. We can talk about this later. Just don’t blow up–and for goodness‘ sake, don’t expose what’s been going on.‘
Just then, Leo lifted his nose toward Honey and Amanda, sniffed at them, and started wagging his tail enthusiastically.
A dog’s nose is keen. He had smelled that the scent lingering on Ray earlier had come from these two women.
Seeing the dog’s excitement, both women immediately understood what was happening. Then they noticed that Leo was just as friendly to Honey as he was to Amanda.
At that moment, a realization hit them.
They exchanged a glance, and both of their faces flushed red as realization dawned upon them.
For a second, they wished the ground would swallow them whole.
Ray couldn’t help but grin. He hadn’t expected the dog to give them away like that.
It didn’t bother him in the slightest. Instead, he walked straight toward Honey.
Justin saw this and immediately stepped forward, spreading his arms to block him. “What do you think you’re doing?”
His wife was too beautiful, too tempting. He was always on guard, paranoid that other men were eyeing her.
Ray casually shoved him aside. Justin, whose body was worn down from years of drinking, was no match for Ray’s strength and stumbled to the side. Ray leaned close to Honey’s ear and whispered, “Come find me. Or else… I’ll tell him everything.”
Honey’s face instantly went pale.
Ray turned and walked away, thinking, ‘You can’t play both sides and act innocent.‘
“What did you say to my wife?!” Justin shouted, jumping in fury. “You bastard! Get back here! Stop!”
Honey shot Amanda a quick look, signaling for help, then softened her voice to coax him. “Babe, it’s not worth getting so worked up over him. You’ll just make yourself sick. Let’s go home–it’s freezing out here.”
Justin cursed under his breath as he finally turned to leave,
He was all bark and no bite. The incident in the elevator had left him genuinely scared.
The three of them headed back toward their building. Just as they reached the entrance, Honey suddenly said, Babe, you two go up first. I’m going to try and borrow a little more food.”
Justin eyed her suspiciously. Ray had just whispered to her and now she wanted to go off alone? Something wasn’t right.
He might love to gamble, but he wasn’t stupid.

Lily reacted quickly. “I’ll go with Honey.”
Justin thought for a moment, then nodded. “Fine, Amanda can go with you.”
With his cousin going along, there was no way Honey could slip off to see Ray alone.
Honey had no choice but to agree.
Justin went upstairs alone, while the two women started walking back the way they’d come.
Neither spoke the entire way. The silence between them grew thick and awkward.
What would happen if they went to Ray?
They both knew the answer.
Going alone was one thing. But going together… especially as sisters–in–law…
How could anyone face that?
