Chapter 79
Wesley was utterly terrified.
“Don’t kill me! Please, don’t kill me! I’ll do anything you want–just spare my life!”
Ray felt a flicker of irritation. The moment Wesley collapsed like that, he’d coincidentally avoided the spatial gate Ray had opened in front of him.
“Leo, go.”
He swept the flashlight beam onto Wesley.
Leo moved like a true black panther–one swift blur–and lunged forward, clamping its jaws around Wesley’s throat.
“Mmgh-”
Wesley struggled desperately, but Leo’s grip was iron–tight, refusing to let go.
His limbs flailed wildly. Suffocation closed in, and fear overwhelmed him until he lost control of his bowels.
“Leo, back,” Ray said quickly. Even from this distance, through several layers of clothing, the stench had already reached him.
He had no intention of giving Leo a half–hour bath when they got back.
Leo was obedient. It released its bite at once and ran back to Ray.
Ray, of course, had no intention of letting Wesley live. He stepped forward and put a bullet into him.
‘You got off easy,‘ Ray thought.
The bullet punched through Wesley’s forehead, and a spray of blood bloomed outward.
Ray tidied up the bodies, piling them all off to one side so they wouldn’t interfere with his nightly dog walks.
This, too, was a form of deterrence.
“I’d like to see who still dares set their sights on me after ten more corpses show up.”
He took Leo home. They both took a shower. Then Ray went upstairs to sleep, while Leo stayed on the first floor, dutifully fulfilling its role as Ray’s “security guard.”
The night passed, and the apocalypse entered its sixth day.
By morning, even more news was circulating through the neighborhood.
First, the Gantt family.
Josh and Max were truly something else–cruel and twisted. They’d actually tied up Lauren and announced that anyone could have her for the price of a single pack of instant noodles.
Because food and water were scarce, Lauren’s “business” wasn’t exactly booming. Still, there were customers. At the very least, the Gantt family could survive a little longer.

In truth, there were already plenty of women selling their bodies. But something like this–where a father and brother personally forced a woman into prostitution–was unprecedented.
As expected of the Gantt family, they’d lowered the bar yet again.
When Ray heard about it, he froze for a moment, then laughed.
This was exactly the kind of thing the Gantt family would do.
Josh had always favored his son over his daughter. Back when Ray had lived with them, Josh had squeezed him dry, all to subsidize his precious son.
Why had the entire family of six insisted on living together?
Josh would rather live cramped than let his daughter and son–in–law move out. Once they lived separately, how could he keep a grip on his daughter’s family’s assets?
Now, he was selling his own daughter.
None of this surprised Ray.
In fact, if Ray hadn’t been around back then, the first one slaughtered and eaten might well have been
Lauren.
For now, she still had some “value.” But the day her “business” dried up would likely be the day she was
