“Step back a little,” Ray said.

Rudy did as told, retreating far from the doorway. To himself, he couldn’t help thinking how careful– almost paranoid–Ray was.

With a metallic click, the iron door opened.

Two bottles of water and three packs of instant noodles appeared on the ground. In the very next moment, the door shut again.

‘That’s it?‘ Rudy couldn’t help complaining inwardly.

He called toward the door, “Thomas and the others are planning a night raid tonight. They’ve got a welder -your iron door might not hold up against that. And there are nine of them. If they rush in together, all armed with knives, can you really stop them?”

For quite a while, there was no response.

Just as Rudy was beginning to wonder whether Ray had even heard him, Ray’s voice finally came through.

“Join them. Keep me informed at all times.”

Rudy refused outright. “What you’ve given me is only enough to buy information. You want me to be a mole? That’ll cost extra.”

“Fine.”

The iron door opened again. Two more packs of instant noodles and another bottle of water appeared on the ground. Ray’s voice followed.

“Watch them closely and report to me at all times. From now on, I’ll give you the same amount of food and water every day.”

“Deal.” Rudy didn’t haggle any further. He picked up the noodles and water and tucked them beneath his

thick winter clothes.

Turning around, he walked off, using his phone’s flashlight to light the way.

After he’d gone some distance, several beams of light suddenly shone toward him. He shone his own light back–and recognized Thomas and the others.

Instead of fear, a smile spread across Rudy’s face.

“Well?” Thomas asked. “Did Ray take the bait?”

Rudy pulled out the noodles and water. “Four packs of instant noodles and three bottles of water. What do you think–did he believe me?”

“Hahaha!” Thomas and the others burst out laughing.

“That idiot will never realize we didn’t lose a traitor–we deliberately sent him a spy!

“Besides, with the power out, how’s a welder supposed to work?

“Enough nonsense. Tell us what the villa’s like inside.”

Rudy shook his head. “That guy is insanely cautious. He didn’t let me in at all. But I checked the thickness of that iron door–at least eight inches thick, electrically controlled. Even pushing it open would take serious effort. Welding it open, even if there were power, is completely unrealistic.”

Everyone sucked in a breath.

An eight–inch–thick iron door?!

That was the thickness of military defense bunker doors. Did he turn his house into a bomb shelter?

“Good thing we weren’t planning to attack from the basement,” someone said. “Otherwise, it would’ve been pointless.”

“But we still haven’t figured out the villa’s internal layout.”

“That’s fine. Right now, his attention is completely on the basement. Tonight, we stick to the plan. Team Two will feint an attack from the basement to draw Ray’s focus. Team One will strike from above and catch him off guard!
