Chapter 98
Hearing Lucy’s warning, Ray realized she had a clear–headed understanding of the apocalypse–she wasn’t some naive saint.
After chatting for a while longer, he hung up.
Time to sleep.
When he woke, he moved slowly through his morning routine–brushing his teeth, washing his face–then called Leo for breakfast.
Out of habit, he reached for his phone, but the no–signal icon greeted him. Only then did he remember that all communications were completely down. Everyone had become a true island unto themselves.
He tossed the phone aside; now it could only make satellite calls.
No matter–he’d watch TV instead.
He had prepped dozens of portable hard drives loaded with movies, TV shows, and variety programs, plus thousands of fully charged batteries. With this setup, he could last for six months or more. After all, lighting barely consumed any electricity.
The big power drain had been the air conditioning, but now he relied on the fireplace for warmth, even using it to heat water for bathing. The villa barely used any power at all.
By noon, Honey, Amanda, and Emily arrived, right on schedule.
An hour later, Ray sent them all out mercilessly.
They wanted to spend the night in the villa? Not a chance.
Still, he had them scout the neighborhood, reporting any significant developments daily. With the network down, the only way to gather information was by word of mouth. Truly, civilization had taken a step back to the Stone Age.
Despite the communications blackout, he wasn’t badly affected. He could still binge shows, watch movies, and play games.
Gaming it was.
He picked a new release, quickly got the hang of it, and plunged in. The game was so good he nearly lost track of time, playing late into the night.
The next day, he continued until Honey and the other two interrupted him.
By afternoon, he gamed again, finally finishing at 3 a.m.
Satisfied, he collapsed onto the bed, sleeping until after ten the next morning, still a little groggy.
“Games are addictive… no more late–night marathons,” he chastised himself while preparing breakfast for him
and Leo.
After eating, he went to the third floor, leaning by the window to look outside. The thick fog limited visibility to

barely a meter, offering little in the way of scenery. Yet, faint noises from outside reached him.
By noon, Honey and the others appeared as usual. This time, he didn’t immediately shoo them away. Instead, he asked whether anything notable had happened in the neighborhood over the past two days. But the three rarely ventured out, so their information was minimal.
He sighed. Broken networks really were inconvenient.
Still, the fact that no one had come for bounty collection spoke volumes–Sean and Bruce were both still alive. Those two seemed difficult to deal with.
Ray didn’t care. They couldn’t breach the villa. Even if the entire neighborhood banded together, multiplied tenfold, they’d only end up wiped out.
“If I had a miracle self–defense ability too, I could truly go anywhere and do anything,” he mused, slightly regretful.
After the women left, Ray lingered upstairs for a bit before his phone’s alarm went off.
Someone was here.
It turned out to be Rita, the wife of the snarky guy.
Odd.
Checking the hallway, he saw no sign of her husband. So what was she doing here?
Ray went downstairs and opened the door.
“What brings you here?” he asked.
Biting her lip, Rita hesitated before saying, “I… I want something to eat.”
Ray chuckled. When hunger strikes, even the proudest must bow.
“Come in,” he said, placing several dishes on the table. Rita immediately sat and devoured the food.
“Does your husband know you’re here?” he asked.
“He… he-” Rita faltered, finally answering, “He knows.”
Ray raised an eyebrow. He had allowed her to come, huh?
He was willing to lose his virtue due to starvation? That was serious.
He shook his head, remembering something. “Has your husband told you what’s going on in the neighborhood?
