My Secret Husband Is My Cold Boss novel Chapter 107

The three of them had been so engrossed in conversation that no one had noticed him approach.

Leo spun around like a top.

Having worked with Sampson for a while now, he was familiar with his boss's temperament and wasn't nearly as intimidated as before. "I'm off the clock, sir. I just came to process a transfer with Dr. Gates."

"What brings you over here?"

"Looking for you," Sampson lied effortlessly.

The two of them headed home from work as usual, ate dinner, and relaxed.

Since they were only staying for one night, Wendy didn't pack a suitcase. She planned to just toss some undergarments into her overnight bag.

A knock came at the bedroom door.

Sampson stood in the hallway.

As if guessing she was packing, he said, "I'm taking a small suitcase. You can put your things in with mine so it's easier to carry."

"Alright." She nodded.

They booked the earliest flight out.

The airport highway was cloaked in heavy fog.

With too much on her mind, Wendy couldn't sleep in the car. She leaned against the window, staring out.

Watching the thick, rolling white clouds drifting past triggered a memory. On the morning of her grandmother's funeral all those years ago, the weather had looked exactly like this.

Bitterly cold.

It felt like wearing a soaking wet winter coat—no matter how hard you tried to hide, the chill sank deep into your bones.

Wendy knew that the pervasive dampness was actually rooted in her own heart. And the closer she got to Lakeside, the heavier it became.

The two sat in silence on the plane. Wendy managed to drift into a restless sleep for two hours before they finally touched down in Lakeside.

It was overcast here, too.

It must have snowed a couple of days ago, as patches of unmelted snow still clung to the ground.

Sampson had arranged for a car service to wait in the parking garage. Once they got in, the driver took them straight to the hotel.

Sampson had handled all the logistics—the flights, the car, and the hotel.

As they walked into the lobby, Wendy couldn't hold back the question any longer. "How many rooms did you book?"

"One," he replied with effortless calm. "A twin suite. Is that okay?"
