The massive bed in the room was more than large enough for the two of them to sleep on opposite sides.

After the bellhop brought their luggage in, Sampson stopped him before he could leave. "Could you bring us an extra blanket, please?"

"Certainly, right away."

The door clicked shut, leaving just the two of them in the room.

Guessing what he was getting at, Wendy spoke up first. "The sofa is too small for you. I'll take it."

His response was a short, sharp laugh.

Wendy looked up, meeting his faintly amused gaze.

Sampson clarified, "Wendy, I think you've misunderstood. I have absolutely no intention of sleeping on the sofa."

"...What?"

The staff member knocked and brought the extra blanket.

Sampson took it and tossed it onto one side of the bed.

"The bed is big enough," he stated. "If we don't sleep well tonight, we won't have the energy to visit the cemetery tomorrow. We're both sleeping on the bed."

The dim, warm lighting in the room felt entirely too intimate.

"Make Sampson do all the heavy lifting, okay? You just focus on taking care of yourself," Winona ordered.

After chatting for a bit, right before hanging up, Winona finally asked, "Where is Sampson?"

"He's washing his hands."

Wendy walked over to the bathroom door. Since his hands were wet, she held the phone up for him.

"Mom," he greeted.

Winona got straight to the point. "You take good care of Wendy these next two days, you hear me?"
