My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 142

Melody's smile finally began to crack.

She lowered her eyes, took a bite of her vegetables, and chewed slowly, falling silent.

The food tasted like absolute ash in her mouth.

...

After lunch, Eleanor pulled Seraphina into the backyard for a chat.

"Seraphina, let me be completely honest with you," Eleanor said, patting Seraphina's hand affectionately.

"I'm listening, Grandma Eleanor."

"The Monroe girl grew up alongside Lucian. When they were kids, the adults used to joke about an arranged marriage," Eleanor paused. "But they were just silly jokes. They never meant anything. Lucian never saw her in that light, so don't let it worry you."

Seraphina hadn't expected the matriarch to bring it up so directly. A wave of comfort washed over her.

"Grandma Eleanor, I wasn't overthinking it."

"Good." Eleanor nodded in satisfaction. "Lucian has a cold exterior, but he's got a good heart. He isn't one for sweet talk, but when he commits to someone, it's for life. I can tell he treats you differently."

The tips of Seraphina's ears flushed pink, and she stayed quiet.

"And besides," Eleanor lowered her voice conspiratorially, "you're carrying the next Langford heir. No one is going to push you out. I've got your back, so don't you worry."

Seraphina couldn't help but smile. "Thank you, Grandma Eleanor."

"There's no need to thank me. We're family."

As the two were talking, footsteps approached from behind.

Melody walked over carrying a fruit platter, a bright smile on her face.

"Eleanor, Seraphina, I just sliced some fruit for you."

Eleanor glanced at the platter and nodded. "Just set it down."

Melody placed the platter on the stone table, her gaze lingering on Seraphina's stomach.
