Standing firmly behind her was the entire might of the Langford family.
Panic-stricken, Zelda began grasping at straws. "Sienna, let's just rush to a different hospital! We can figure something out on the way..."
"Mom."
Sienna cut her off, her voice cracking with exhaustion. "Do you really think Lucian Langford is going to give us that chance? If he knows about this, he will make absolutely sure we go down in flames."
Zelda opened her mouth to argue, but the horrifying realization hit her—Sienna was right.
Who exactly was Lucian Langford?
He was a titan who controlled the entire city's financial sector with a flick of his wrist. If he wanted to protect Seraphina, their petty little schemes were nothing but a joke to him.
Biting her lip, Sienna's eyes burned with vicious resentment.
She had sacrificed everything to finally get pregnant with Sebastian's child, only to watch that pregnancy slip through her fingers.
She refused to accept defeat. She refused to watch Seraphina live a better life than her.
Just then, the steady, rhythmic sound of approaching footsteps echoed from the end of the hallway.
Sienna jerked her head up, her pupils shrinking in terror.
Walking side-by-side down the corridor were Lucian and Seraphina.
Lucian's expression was an impenetrable mask of cold authority, radiating the suffocating dominance of an absolute apex predator.
Walking perfectly in step beside him, Seraphina had a man's tailored suit jacket draped over her shoulders. Her small baby bump was visible, and she walked with graceful, unhurried composure.
As the couple stopped in front of them, Lucian's dark gaze briefly swept over Sienna's stomach before flicking away in obvious disgust.
He turned his head slightly, his voice dropping into a softer cadence for Seraphina. "Take a seat first. Don't stand for too long."
Seraphina nodded and gracefully sat down in one of the waiting chairs.
As she settled into the chair, Lucian stood like a sentinel by her side.
Forcing a painfully stiff smile, Zelda braced herself. "Mr. Langford, what a coincidence. What brings you to the hospital at this hour?"
Lucian's tone was dangerously flat. "It's not a coincidence. I came specifically for this."
Zelda's fake smile completely shattered.
