My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 18

So now, he suddenly brings a woman home, and she's already pregnant?

It was statistically impossible!

Unless—

Unless that baby wasn't actually his.

Once the child was born and the DNA results were dragged into the light, this little tramp's web of lies would instantly disintegrate.

When that day came, how could Lucian possibly maintain his iron grip as the head of the Langford family with his reputation in tatters?

No matter how insanely biased the old woman was, there was zero chance she would ever allow damaged goods and a bastard child to inherit the Langford bloodline.

At that thought, Charlene practically had to bite her lip to stop an ecstatic smirk from breaking out.

But Eleanor's vicious threat quickly wiped the lingering amusement from her face.

Lawrence stood with his head bowed, thick beads of nervous sweat forming on his forehead.

"Lawrence, I raised you for decades, but I never realized you were so incredibly short-sighted. Lucian is the undisputed head of this family. Who gave you the audacity to question his choice of a wife? To challenge the legitimacy of his own child?"

Sweat rolled down Lawrence's cheek. "Mom, I..."

"Shut your mouth," Eleanor snapped coldly. "I never want to hear a word of this again, or you will face the consequences."

Charlene practically vibrated with panic. "Mom! We were only trying to help..."

Eleanor locked her piercing eyes onto her. "Do you honestly think I don't know what kind of game you're playing? I've turned a blind eye to all your pathetic little schemes and backstabbing over the years because you weren't worth my time. But you've severely overstepped your bounds today."

Charlene's face burned a humiliating crimson.

Lucian remained perfectly silent. The reality of the situation spoke louder than any argument he could make.

Refusing to grant them another second of her time, Eleanor took Seraphina's hand and gently led her toward the dining room.

"Sera, sweetheart, I had the kitchen slow-cook some nutritious broth for you, and we've prepared an entire feast. You need to eat as much as you can."

"Thank you, Grandma." Seraphina felt a genuine rush of gratitude.

Watching them walk away, Charlene's manicured fingernails dug violently into her own palms.

This blatant favoritism was sickening!

The old woman was treating a ruined, second-hand embarrassment like absolute royalty?

It felt as though a massive boulder was lodged in Charlene's chest, suffocating her.

She had been married into this family for over two decades, bending over backward to serve her mother-in-law and raising her children, yet the old woman had always treated her with frigid indifference.
