My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 20

Without a second of hesitation, Lucian tapped the screen, answering the call and throwing it on speakerphone.

"Sera!"

Sebastian's frantic, desperate voice instantly flooded the dining room. "You finally picked up! Where are you? Where did you go last night? I've been terrified! Did Lucian hurt you?"

Seraphina's frown deepened.

He sounded so genuinely agonizingly worried about her.

If she hadn't discovered his vile betrayal, she might have actually believed him.

"Sera, listen to me," Sebastian begged, his tone softening into a velvet purr. "I don't blame you for what happened yesterday. I know you were just lashing out in the heat of the moment. Come back to me, and we'll sit down and talk this through. We can completely reschedule the wedding. I'll give you whatever kind of ceremony you want..."

"Sebastian, we have absolutely nothing left to discuss," Seraphina cut him off, her voice devoid of any emotion.

The line went dead silent for a moment.

"Sera, stop being so stubborn."

"Stubborn?" Seraphina let out a cold, hollow laugh. "Sebastian, after everything, you still have the nerve to think I'm just throwing a tantrum?"

"That's not what I meant..."

"Then what exactly did you mean?" she snapped, refusing to let him breathe. "Are you calling to tell me you didn't drug my drink? Or that you didn't hire those thugs to violently destroy my reputation? Or perhaps you're going to tell me that the baby growing inside Sienna's stomach isn't yours?"

The silence on the other end was deafening.

It stretched on for an eternity.

Sitting next to them, Eleanor's face had morphed into a mask of pure fury.

She didn't know the intricate details of the drama, but the words 'drug' and 'destroy her reputation' were more than enough for her to piece together the horrific truth.

Lucian remained leaning back in his chair, his expression unreadable, but his knuckles were turning white as he gripped his teacup.

"Sera." Sebastian's voice finally returned, completely stripped of its fake warmth, replaced by a venomous, dark edge. "Are you absolutely sure you want to talk to me like this?"

He had lowered himself to beg for her forgiveness, and she was actually going to push her luck?

"I've never been more sure."

"Fine." Sebastian hissed, taking a ragged breath. "Then tell me this. Did you seriously run off and legally marry Lucian today?"
