My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 285

Sitting on her other side, Lucian gently tapped the back of her hand, a subtle gesture meant to ground her.

She just offered a tiny smile in return, remaining silent.

Charlene pipe up again, this time aiming directly at her.

"Pregnancy must be so exhausting for you, Sera. Do you have any specific cravings? Just say the word, and I'll have the kitchen whip something up."

"Thank you, Charlene, but there's no need," she replied with flawless manners.

"Nonsense, it's no trouble at all. We're family." She laughed, though her eyes darted quickly toward Eleanor to gauge her reaction. "By the way, do you happen to know any single girls from your social circle? Maybe someone you could introduce to Landon?"

The transition was so sharp it gave her whiplash.

Before she could even process the loaded question, Landon cut in.

"Mom, could you stop cornering people about my love life?" He sounded exasperated, yet he managed to keep his tone light. "I literally just got off the plane. Give me a break, will you?"

"A break? You're twenty-five years old!" Her pitch instantly spiked.

"So what? Lucian tied the knot late too. What's the rush?" Landon threw a sideways glance at his older cousin, a mocking smirk tugging at his lips.

It was a masterfully deployed deflection. Not only did it shut his mother down, but it also used Lucian as the perfect human shield.

Charlene visibly choked on her retort, completely disarmed.

"That's enough," Eleanor stated crisply. "Let the boy handle his own private affairs. Pestering him won't change anything."

Her forced grin cracked for a second before snapping back into place. "You're right, Mom. I'm just getting ahead of myself."

All the while, Lawrence remained utterly mute, blending into the background like a piece of furniture.

The butler emerged from the dining hall, bowing respectfully. "Madam, dinner is served."

"Let's eat, then." The older woman stood up, and Seraphina immediately reached out to steady her.

"Easy now. Don't worry about me. You're practically ready to pop—watch your own footing," Eleanor chided gently, patting her hand.

"I'm perfectly fine, Grandma," she reassured her with a smile.
