Seymour paused for a moment before adding, "Mr. Langford, the Vice President, and two members of the Technical Committee will be attending."
As Seymour's words hung in the air, the tension within Group B grew even more suffocating.
Seymour made sure to emphasize, "Be in the conference room ten minutes early."
Winona glanced at Seraphina. "What about us?"
Seraphina closed her photo gallery. "We'll head in after I finish this piece of cake."
Gabe looked absolutely scandalized. "There was cake?"
Leona pulled out a small box. "I saved it for Sera. Hands off."
Seymour couldn't hold his tongue. "Lead Simmons, this afternoon's meeting dictates resource allocation. Could you all take this a little more seriously?"
Seraphina accepted the fork from Leona. "Eating cake won't impact my work."
Standing a short distance away, Melody finally cracked a smile.
So what if they were a championship-tier team?
Arrogance always led to ruin.
Right before three o'clock, everyone filed into the conference room.
Landon arrived first. His movements were characteristically lazy, and upon entering, his gaze immediately locked onto Seraphina.
He flashed a smirk. "I heard you delivered quite a gift to the division today."
Seraphina took her seat. "Word travels fast, Vice President."
Landon pulled out a chair. "Because this project is simply too important to fail."
He lowered his voice so only Seraphina could hear him. "Of course, if you put on a good show today, I'm genuinely looking forward to seeing what kind of value you can actually bring to the Langford Group."
"Let's hope you don't disappoint Lucian after all the trouble he went through to get these people for you, right?"
While Seraphina had technically bypassed Lucian to bring in her team, Landon remained utterly convinced that Lucian had secretly utilized his wealth and connections to make it happen.
Melody glanced up at him.
Landon met her eyes for a brief second before swiftly looking away.
The conference room doors swung open again.
Lucian entered, pushed in his wheelchair by Christian, and the low hum of whispers instantly died down.
His gaze swept across the long table, finally landing on Seraphina.
Seraphina was organizing her laptop cables. Sensing his eyes on her, she glanced up, meeting his look for a fraction of a second before looking away.
A faint smile tugged at the corner of Lucian's mouth.
Melody witnessed the quiet exchange.
She gripped her pen so hard it nearly snapped in half.
