At this point, tears began to stream down her bruised face.
"I don't have any connections, and I was too terrified to make a scene. My mother is still in the hospital waiting for her surgery fees. I had no choice but to beg Ms. Simmons for help."
The video ended.
The exhibition hall was so deathly quiet that every intake of breath sounded deafening.
Clutching her shawl in a death grip, Sienna's voice came out in a raspy squeak. "Are we just supposed to take her word for it? Seraphina, you found some random girl to record a sob story, and that's enough to convict me?"
Seraphina swiped to the next file on her phone. "She filed a police report, underwent a forensic medical examination, and we pulled the security footage from her apartment complex's elevator."
Christian took the phone and mirrored the footage onto the main display screen.
Two men were seen hurrying out the side gate of a residential complex, carrying a large poster tube. One of them glanced back, revealing half of his face clearly to the camera.
Seraphina continued, "We've already located those two men. One is Mick Moran, the other is Kane Varick. They're hired muscle, thugs who collect debts for a living. They confessed that Sienna paid them to ambush Lyra outside her building and steal the painting."
Sienna's voice cracked in a hysterical shriek. "I did not!"
Seraphina pulled up a screenshot of a wire transfer. "Just because the account wasn't registered in your name doesn't mean you can deny it. Did you forget? That's a supplementary card attached to Zelda Gates's account. You used that exact same card to buy a dress just the night before last. We have the transaction records for that, too."
Sienna's lips moved, but not a single sound came out.
Evie stood completely frozen, her face flushing red and then draining of color. She couldn't find a single excuse to defend her anymore.
Jules crossed his arms in disgust. "Sienna, the sheer audacity of you. Stealing someone else's work is one thing, but you tried to rip her off completely. Unbelievable."
Sienna stared at him with bloodshot eyes. "Jules, are you going to gang up on me, too?"
All traces of amusement vanished from Jules's face. "Stop playing the victim. The real victim is lying in a hospital bed right now."
Seraphina retrieved her phone.
A sudden realization hit Lucian.
The Lyra in the video looked exactly like the pianist playing at the Starlight Restaurant the night he and Seraphina had dined there.
Seraphina had wanted to go speak to the pianist that night, but when they reached the lounge, she was already gone.
