The crowd's interest was piqued again, and they started discussing the piece.
"I have no idea. They haven't announced the starting price yet. It probably won't be high, though; the artist hasn't even shown up."
"Who is SS? I've never heard of them."
"Might be a newcomer. They're definitely going to make a name for themselves tonight."
Listening to the chatter, Melody kept a pleasant expression, but she was grinding her teeth so hard her jaw ached.
She had prepared for so long, wanting everyone to see her painting and recognize her brilliance.
But now, all the attention had been stolen by a piece Seraphina had casually pointed out.
Landon leaned in close to her and whispered, "Holding up okay?"
Melody didn't look at him. "Are you happy now?"
Landon was still smiling. "I just asked her a simple question. Who knew she actually knew what she was talking about?"
Melody looked up, a frigid glint in her eyes. "You didn't want to embarrass me. You were testing her."
Landon didn't deny it. "I had to see what my brother's choice was really made of."
Melody scoffed coldly. "And? What did you see?"
Landon looked at Seraphina. "Enough."
Seraphina was definitely not just a pretty face relying on Lucian's backing.
That revelation was far more troublesome than any painting at the gala tonight.
The ship's doctor arrived to re-bandage Seraphina's wound. Lucian held her hand the entire time, refusing to let her move.
Under his intense stare, Seraphina squirmed uncomfortably. "It's not like I'm going to run away."
Lucian deadpanned, "You climb out of windows."
Seraphina was speechless.
Jules almost laughed again but stifled it when Lucian shot him a warning glare.
Once he finished, the doctor advised, "Mrs. Langford, the cut isn't deep, but try to keep it dry and avoid putting any pressure on it."
Seraphina nodded. "Understood."
Lucian interjected, "She won't remember. Tell me."
Seraphina shot him a look. "Lucian."
Lucian raised his eyes. "Yes?"
She pulled her hand back. "You're being a bit too controlling right now."
Lucian's tone was entirely matter-of-fact. "It's perfectly legal management."
Seraphina was too flabbergasted to formulate a reply.
