"Something's wrong," Seraphina muttered, her brows pulled into a tight frown as she watched the heavy fire doors slowly descending at the mall entrance.
"What's wrong? What is it?" Tiffany asked anxiously.
Without explaining, Seraphina grabbed Tiffany's hand in a vice grip. "Come on. We need to leave right now."
"Huh?"
Tiffany looked around at the people leisurely strolling by, assuming Seraphina was just deeply spooked by the false alarm.
"I think we're fine, right?"
But Seraphina was already dragging her toward the emergency stairwell.
Evie and Melody had just reached the elevators. The doors dinged open, and the two prepared to step inside.
Seraphina, who had just reached the adjacent stairwell, stopped dead in her tracks. She whirled around and screamed, "Evie, get out of there! Do not take the elevator! It's dangerous!"
Evie had one foot inside, but at Seraphina's shout, she froze.
She looked back at Seraphina, her brow furrowing in annoyance. "What is your problem? It was a tiny fire, and it's already out."
"If you want to panic and take the stairs like an idiot, be my guest. I'm not stopping you."
Seraphina's expression hardened. She pointed urgently toward the mall entrance. "Do you see those fire doors coming down? If you get in that elevator now, you are walking straight into a death trap!"
Evie scoffed. "I don't believe a word you say. You're just trying to mess with me."
Tiffany groaned in frustration. "Sera, you can't save someone who wants to die. Let's just go!"
Ignoring her, Seraphina sprinted toward the elevator.
Just as Evie stepped fully inside, Seraphina reached in, grabbed her arm, and violently yanked her back out into the hall.
