"I should wait for you here, but I got some work to handle," he said calmly.
"When you're done packing, head to our house. If you need anything for the house, just use this. No PIN needed."
On their way here, Marcus had told her he'd bought a place in Claudia and wanted her to move in.
Abigail, desperate to get away from the Winchesters, had said yes right away.
But she hadn't expected him to just hand over his card like that, like she already owned the place.
Looks like her new husband was getting used to this marriage thing faster than she was.
But she didn't want to spend his money.
All she knew about Marcus's money was his car - an old Volkswagen worth maybe a hundred grand.
She figured he wasn't rich and didn't want to cost him more, especially after he bought the house.
But flat-out saying no might hurt his feelings, and she didn't want that.
She looked at the card and pushed it back with a grin. "Hold onto it for now. We're not even official yet. What if I just grab the cash and run?"
"You won't," Marcus said, looking straight at her with a raised eyebrow. "Unless you're getting cold feet about this whole marriage thing."
Something in his flat tone made her stop, and she let out a small laugh.
"No, I'm in. It's just..." She couldn't find the right words.
Before she could finish, Marcus just slid the card back to her.
"We had the wedding, so even if we haven't signed the papers yet, I've got responsibilities," he said firmly.
"Take it. It's not much, but it'll help with expenses."
"Hey, taking care of us isn't just your job," Abigail said, holding the card.
Marcus gave her a little smile. "Then take it as my way of making my wife happy. Don’t turn me down."
He wasn't backing down, and Abigail knew turning him down would look bad.
She sighed. "Okay, okay, I'll keep it."
But she'd already decided she wouldn't spend any of it.
No telling how long this marriage would last, and she didn't want things getting messier.
Marcus looked at her like he could read her mind, but kept quiet.
He just gazed at her for a second before heading to his car.
For him, her taking the card was enough for now.
As he got in and started the engine, Abigail called out without thinking, "Drive safe!"
It was just small talk, but something changed when she said it. For a moment, they felt like a real couple.
Marcus smiled a bit.
"Will do."
She watched him drive away before facing the house.
