My Wedding Day Switch To Ex's Uncle novel Chapter 2

Chapter 2 He's Cruel

Felix's smile froze, a flicker of irritation crossing his eyes before that familiar mask of gentle concern slipped back into place.

"Abigail," his voice dripped with false affection, "the wedding's about to start. Are you nervous? Don't worry—I'm here."

Abigail felt her stomach turn again.

She had no interest in watching his pathetic performance any longer. Lifting her chin, she fixed him with a gaze sharp as ice.

"I saw you."

"In the lounge. With Caroline."

The air froze.

A muscle twitched in Felix's jaw. Panic flashed in his eyes for just a second before he forced himself to stay calm. "Me and Caroline? Abigail, what are you talking about? I've been in the ballroom greeting guests this whole time. I haven't even been back to the lounges."

"Do I need to play the recording before you'll admit it?" Abigail's voice was ice-cold.

"You recorded us?!" Felix's eyes widened in shock and fury. He yanked his tie loose and turned away, running his hand through his hair in frustration.

His eyes caught the clock on the wall—only forty-five minutes until the wedding.

His Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed his rage, turning back with a mask of sincerity. "Abigail, let me explain. It's not what you think! Caroline, she... she was just—"

"Just what?" Abigail cut him off with a bitter laugh. "Just naked in my wedding dress to 'congratulate' us? Is that it?"

"Felix, I saw everything. Don't insult me with your bullshit excuses."

The sincerity on his face shattered like glass. Stripped of his last shred of pretense, his expression turned venomous. "Yes! I slept with her! But don't you have ANY responsibility in this?

"You're always so cold, so untouchable—acting like you're too pure for me! You wouldn't even let me near you! But Abigail, I'm a normal man with normal needs!"

Listening to his baseless accusations, Abigail felt a deep exhaustion wash over her.

Of course. He was just like every other cheater—twisting the truth, making excuses, blaming everyone but himself for his own betrayal. As if his betrayal was somehow her fault, as if she'd held a gun to his head and forced him to sleep with... her best friend.

She stared at the face she'd once loved so deeply. Now it looked like a stranger's face—ugly and repulsive. Just having him stand there made the air feel contaminated, suffocating.

She couldn't stay another second. She turned to leave.

A hand shot out and grabbed her wrist hard.

"Where do you think you're going? The wedding's about to start!"

"It's canceled." Abigail's voice was eerily calm, but there was no room for argument. "I'm calling off this wedding. Right now."

"Are you insane?!" Felix's voice turned ice-cold. "All of Claudia's important connections are sitting out there! It was just one time—why are you making such a big deal out of this? I'm still marrying you in the end, aren't I? What more do you want?!"

Abigail stared directly into his eyes, searching for guilt. There was none—only indignation at being called out.

"I don't want anything," she said slowly, each word deliberate. "Except to stop settling for trash."

The sweet melody bounced through the frozen air, a cruel contrast to the word "bastard" he'd just spat at her.

Abigail suddenly remembered their early days together—she'd wanted them to set matching couple ringtones, but he'd refused, claiming it would look unprofessional at work. He'd insisted on keeping the default system sound.

So it wasn't about professionalism after all. She just wasn't worth it to him.

Felix turned away, answering in hushed tones. After hanging up, he faced her again, his voice carrying the weight of absolute command. "An important guest just arrived. I need to go greet them. Abigail, this wedding affects both our families' reputations and business interests. Now's not the time for your drama."

His gaze swept over the wedding dress box, his tone glacial. "Put on the dress. Now. And wait for me at the banquet hall entrance."

Abigail stared in disbelief as he walked away.

After he'd shamelessly betrayed her, after he'd viciously insulted her—how could he still have the audacity to order her to put on that dress, the one reeking of him and another woman, and go through with this sham of a wedding?

"Ha."

She let out a laugh, so soft it was almost a sigh.

Slowly turning her head, her gaze swept past the ruined wedding dress and landed on the enormous wedding portrait that had just been delivered—propped against the wall. In the photo, she was smiling radiantly, a picture of her most innocent dreams about love. Now it was nothing but a cruel joke.

Without hesitation, she picked up the cold silver lighter from the vanity and flicked it open.

Click.

A blue flame sprang to life, reflected in her empty eyes.
