“I am beyond sure.”
“OK, I’m going to call Mom really quick.” I couldn’t help but laugh.

I walked into the bathroom and washed my face. I could hear Susan almost scream on the phone
and I couldn’t help but giggle.
That’s when I realized I had made a huge mistake. I started to look through everything. I ran to my
suitcase and started pulling everything from it.
“Hey Mom, I’m sure whatever you plan for Saturday will be fine. But Marie needs me. I love you Bye.
”
He hung up the phone and grabbed my wrist, making me look at him.
“What is wrong babe?”
“I…I think I forgot my birth control at home and I didn’t even realize I had forgotten to take it
yesterday and I didn’t mean….”
“Hey Hey it’s OK.”
“No it’s not OK. We haven’t even talked about what if I get pregnant.”
“It would only mean we start our family now. I don’t think I knocked you up yet, but if you want, I can go get condoms, but as far as I am concerned, you don’t need to keep taking your birth
control.”
“Really?” I whispered.
“Yes, really and just so you know, Mom is planning our wedding for Saturday. I can call her back if
that’s a problem.”
“No, it’s perfect. I don’t need anything big. In fact, I would be happy with going to the court house and getting married and just having dinner after.”
“Well, Mom would not allow for that but I am sure it will be great.”
“So should I go get condoms?” He asked, smiling at me.
I pushed him onto the bed and crawled on top of him.
“No I…..I like the idea of us starting our own family.”
The next morning, we arrived at the bank as soon as they opened. Saying I was nervous would be
an understatement, but Colton kept me grounded.
The bank manager unlocked the box and left us alone in the room. I slowly opened the box only to
find stacks of cash and jewelry
“Wow, this looks really expensive” I said, running my fingers across one of the recess
There were also multiple savings bonds all in my name.
“I guess I know why my aunt wanted the key”
“Your Grandmother wanted you to have the items inside this box. Not your aunt”
“We can’t just carry this stuff out of here in my purse…can we?
He laughed. “I think it will all fit. When we get home we can get them appraised
We packed my purse with the contents of the box and I was nervous about leaving the bank
Once we were back in the comfort of our hotel, I realized I didn’t want to take all of this on a plane
“Colton…Do you think we could cash in our plane tickets and rent a car and drive home instead? He seemed to think it over and then smiled, “I like that idea but you know that will take us 2 days”
“So we leave in the morning.”
We spent the next hour getting a rental to drive home and cashing in our tickets. We put everything from the bank in the safe in our hotel room and headed out for the afternoon.
As we were walking, looking in the windows, I saw the perfect wedding dress. “Hey, I am going to go into this store. Will you get us something to drink? He gave me a confused look but kissed me and went to get us drinks.
I tried on the dress and it was perfect. I didn’t waste time and quickly purchased the dress.
As I stepped out of the shop, I almost ran right into Steve.
“Marie! What are the odds we would run into you?”
I smirked at him but didn’t respond.
Thankfully, I saw Colton making his way back to me.
“Marie, I want you to meet your sister Gabby and my wife Donna.”
I looked at one of the women standing with Steve. I observed the expensive clothes and designer
bags and the shoes that cost more than my entire outfit.
“Hi.” They said in unison, seemingly uninterested.
Colton walked over and planted a kiss on my lips.
I watched as my father’s daughter checked out Colton. I couldn’t help but smirk at her.

Gabby pushed her tiny breast forward and batted her eyes. I’m sure that works for some guys, but not my Colton.
“Hi” He said and looked back at me. “I see you got something. Can I see it?”
I giggled. “Not till Saturday.”
“What happens on Saturday?” Gabby asked, stepping closer to Colton.
He stepped away and pulled me close to him. “We are getting married,” Colton said, looking at me.
I felt like I could get lost in his amazing eyes.
“This Saturday?” Steve said, surprised.
“Yeah. So, if you will excuse us, we are going to finish our shopping.”
“Wait, I want to introduce you to my wife and we wanted to invite you again for dinner.”
I looked at Steve and something snapped inside of me.
“Why?” I said, sounding full of contempt.
He seemed taken back by my question. “I thought we could get to know each other.”
“Really? You know when would have been a good time to get to know me? When I had nobody and ended up in a group home.”
